Nvidia Corp.’s meteoric rise makes it not only the third-largest company in the U.S. in terms of market capitalization, but also bigger than most other countries’ economies, based on gross domestic product.
The chip maker’s stock closed at $788.17 on Friday, giving it a market value of $1.97 trillion. That figure is greater than the GDP of every nation in the world but 11, beating the likes of Russia, South Korea and Australia, according to February International Monetary Fund data compiled by Forbes.
Of course, comparing a single stock’s market cap to a country’s GDP is not a perfect exercise, as GDP is a measure of a nation’s output and market cap measures the total value of all shares of a publicly traded company.
Shares of Nvidia are up 238% over the past 12 months as the chip maker has seen huge interest in its graphics processing units, which are used by other companies to develop some artificial-intelligence applications.
The company said in its latest earnings report that it forecasts continued demand for its products, leading to a $277 billion gain in its market cap on Thursday — the biggest one-day valuation jump in U.S. history.

China’s GDP is nowhere near $18 trln.
why not, they make a lot and have a lot of potential customers in its own borders...
RE: China’s GDP is nowhere near $18 trln.
How much do you think is China’s GDP ?
But anyway....
Nvidia alone accounts for 44% of the rise in value of the S&P 500 since the end of 2021, just before the Federal Reserve’s planned interest-rate rises hit the market. Microsoft, one of Nvidia’s largest customers, is the next biggest contributor at 14%.
Its actually a pointless exercise.
its like saying "If you owned Nvidia, you could sell it and buy 600 million Big Mac Hamburgers!"
Probably closer to $10bln. Their numbers are completely made up.
Did you attend the AOC School of Economics?
China DOES have 4x the number of people as the USA, so it is possible. On the other hand, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Chinese count their money like Hamas counts civilian deaths.
RE: Probably closer to $10bln.
Billion with a B? You can’t be serious.
The relevant comparison would be between revenue and GDP. That would put its rank in the 60s.

I only lived there for 20 years and they were some of my largest customers. But you can’t even spell AOC. Did you attend the carrot top school of humor?
"THUD" As the bottom is smacked.
"AImen"
Third largest? No.

Not today’s Friday close. The market is still open

Each.
Is this in anticipation of higher Bitcoin prices?
[Probably closer to $10bln. Their numbers are completely made up.]

China has 1.4b people to Mexico’s 122m, about 11x. Mexico’s GDP is $1.4t. Chinese car sales are over 20x Mexico’s. It’s not a big stretch to think China’s GDP is at least 11x Mexico’s.
Another indicator is migrant flows. Per capita, despite serious economic ructions, the Chinese migrant flow into the US is 1/10 Mexico’s. But China’s population is 11x Mexico’s. In other words, per capita, the Chinese illegal alien flow into the US is under 1% of Mexico’s. This suggests that as bad as things are in China, they’re perhaps no worse off than in Mexico,
In other words, Chinese GDP per capita is no lower than Mexico’s, and with 11x the population, nominal GDP is at least 11x Mexico’s number of $1.4T, meaning an $18T estimate for China might be high, but $10T is perhaps low.
Yup, Nvidia is worth $3 trillion.
Are you worried about the Chinese getting advanced chip technology?
No, almost none of our chips will end up in Chinese or Russian weapons.
They’ll be everywhere in the USA and EU, however.
