The world’s largest airline pilot’s union, Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), has instructed its members to refrain from using the words “cockpit,” “airmen,” and “manpower” to be more inclusive.
The ‘woke’ ALPA published its diversity, equity, and inclusion language guide to “reflect the diversity we have at ALPA” and “create a more inclusive workplace.”
“While the word ‘cockpit’ dates back to the 1900s, it has been and may be used in a derogatory way to exclude women in the piloting profession,” the guide explained, according to Breitbart.
“Many women have heard a variation of ‘It is called a cockpit for a reason’ by a male pilot, suggesting that women do not belong in the piloting profession.”
“The intent behind the use of the word is important. … While the word ‘cockpit’ dates back to the 1900s, it has been and may be used in a derogatory way to exclude women in the piloting profession.”
The APLA also doesn’t like using “offensive” terms such as “mother” and “father” because those “may inadvertently ignore different family structures,” such as “caregivers, same-sex parents, stepparents, families with adopted members, and more.”
The ALPA released a statement to Fox News, saying:
“Flying is the safest mode of transportation in the world thanks in large part to airline pilots, professionals that are all held to the highest training and qualification standards.”
“There are real threats to aviation safety like efforts to replace pilots with automation or lower training and experience standards, but opening the doors of opportunity to ensure we have a robust supply of qualified aviators isn’t one of them.”
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby was slammed in 2021 for saying of the company’s graduating pilot classes, “We have committed that 50% of the classes will be women or people of color.”
Glad I no longer have to fly. I flew a lot while working as an engineer. My last flight was one-way from Manchester, NH to El Paso, TX to help my sister sell the family home and move (Drive) to Punxsytawnie, PA and on home.
When I look up into the sky and see a commercial airliner, I say, “You poor, poor bastards!”
Aren’t airlines trying to hire back pilots? And since when is the Union not sticking up for their members? What happens if the pilot uses the word cockpit? Fired? Fined? All unuin members need to tell union to F/O and maybe start a Decertification move.
Box office?
I have always wondered why stewards and stewardesses accepted being called "flight attendants." Steward/stewardess implies trust, responsibility, care, and being in charge. "Flight attendant" does not carry these connotations and implies that someone is merely present or on hand, like a "gas station attendant."
Guarantee this was written by a woman….
I vote 'Erect Penis Airliner Control Room'.
What will they call it now?...................
A cuntpit.
Winning world wars is so-o-o-o-o-o last century.
Meanwhile they are winning their war, and you and everyone you care about is their enemy.
They should be treated as Reagan treated PATCO.
You’re right, of course, but that mental illness is contagious. All of this woke nonsense is symptomatic. In fact, woke is a mental illness.
Possibly, the bridge. The cockpit was originally meant to be the area where the ships wheel of a sailing ship was located.
Missing female aviator, Amelia Earhart, would agree with you.......
You left out “Box Office”.
“Woman” and “airman” seem to be equally triggering to me.
We, (retired pilot) have been referring to it as the “Flight Deck” as long as I can remember.
Cantpit?
What will they call it now?..................."
I am partial to "groin hole."
