I am glad I saw this article, I forgot I took a package of Oreo cookies out for a before bed snack.
My brother (a physician) once told me they should put statins in the drinking water.
Read the book “Wheat Belly” by William Davis, MD. He proves that wheat is the cause of high cholesterol. I stopped eating wheat and my LDL was perfect three months later.
I buy BFree seed bread at Natural Grocer, made entirely of seeds. Delish for avocado toast, probably for sandwiches too, though I don’t eat them. Probably sold at other health stores, and Walmart online sometimes has it.
Try recipes in Davis’s book too, lots of ideas for wheat-free meals.
My heart doctor/vein surgeon, absolutely hates statins..
He said that the risk was not worth the reward.
People with lower cholesterol have higher mortality. The Koren study of millions of people showed total cholesterol of 200-250 was the sweet spot for longevity.
Many likely died from Covid due to low vitamin D and cholesterol as a result being on statins.
Sorry it didn’t work out for you. I’ve been on statins for 35 years, mother was similarly until she passed away after a fall at 102 with minimal arterial blockage at the time.
When I reached 45 years of age, I developed significant celiac. It’s genetic in my case. Haven’t touched wheat since. The idiotic Food Pyramid was pushed and forced for decades.
PS...we discovered the hard way that maltodextrin is dangerous. After it almost sent me to the hospital, I researched and found totally UNhelpful answers. One source even stated “maltodextrin may, or may not, contain wheat.” Gluten free diets and products have become a fad in some places. The most amusing one was “gluten free fresh strawberries.”
Doctors wanted to put me on medication for high cholesterol. I said, no, I’ll take care of it myself. And I did.
Here is what I tell my wife. I do not want to live for ever. I am 66 and do not take drugs. My wife is also 66 and takes about 4 drugs. Who is going to die first? Who cares?
I have an associated story to yours. I was 286 pounds and my HDL was 26. Over the next 2 years I changed my diet, and used the Peloton every day and lost over 50 pounds. (down to 232) My HDL was then 26.
My doctor had no explanation as to how this was possible. “I guess it’s just your genetics” he said.
My older brother took statins and it gave him incredible muscle cramps in his legs, and peripheral neuropathy.
He went off statins and the cramps and tingling in extremities went away
I have refused them for at least 20 years. My cath shows arteries clean as a whistle.
bttt
And yet you are still hear to be cranky
Statins are a joke when it comes to lowering cholesterol for heart disease. There is no correlation between cholesterol and heart disease and there’s numerous studies that prove this.... The ones not funded by big pharma or their paid of Drs and universities.
I’ve been on Lipitor (10 mg) for years. My wife and I decided to on a low/no cholesterol diet. We strictly avoided everything that might have cholesterol. At the same time, I stopped taking Lipitor. After six months of dieting I went in for my routine physical hoping that my cholesterol levels would be in in the normal range. Unfortunately, my levels were up dramatically even with the strict dieting. I explained to my doctor about my diet ( no meat, dairy etc.) He said that some people produce their cholesterol and that no diet will address that.
So, I can quit paying for Lipitor (generic) and buy Oreos instead?
Halleluiah! Praise the Lord!................
