U.S. Postal Service workers are facing a growing number of dog attacks, with 5,800 letter carriers suffering bites last year, according to the USPS.
"Letter carriers are exposed to potential hazards every day, none more prevalent than a canine encounter. All it takes is one interaction for a letter carrier to possibly suffer an injury," said Leeann Theriault, USPS Manager, Employee Safety and Health Awareness, in a news release to highlight a promotional campaign running this week to draw attention to the problem.

I have heard these stories for 60 years, just kick the dog, and deliver the mail.

Shame Palmetto, GA isn’t on the list.
About 2 years ago, I was walking our dog when we happened to cross paths with the mail carrier (he was delivering, my dog was peeing). Mail carrier tossed my dog a biscuit. Since then, any time I’m walking the dog, and a mail truck or close facsimile thereof, is near, my dog stops in her tracks with ears perked up, or pulls on the leash to get closer. They say dogs have short-term memories but I don’t believe that at all.
Worked there for ten years, only got bitten twice .
Maybe let a bunch of dogs loose around polling centers so they don’t drop off ballots in the middle of the night.
Half of them should be. The USPS sucks at best. I just received paperwork for a Dr’s appointment I had on the 14th of May. The mail date on the envelope was 02 May 2024, I received it today 06 June 2024... 34 days to go 16 miles.
My grandson is waiting on his birthday card with $$ in it (not cash) for 9 days now. According to google maps I could have walked there in 5 days and be home tomorrow... he’s 600 miles away.
This data are useless unless it is size-adjusted. St Louis is relatively bad, and NYC is relatively great.

I had a lose dog come after me today. Maybe he would have been friendly but I barely made it inside my door. I probably should get some dog spray or bear spray or something when working in yard
I did the delivery driver thing for a few years. A Chihuahua got me in Portola Valley, CA. Late 1980s, when you could still get Coca Cola in glass bottles.
My wife was a rural postal carrier. There are dogs you cannot kick or they will eat you. She refused to deliver to a few places because of their dogs.
Every dog in our neighborhood gets treats from the mail lady. Dogs being walked will sit and wait for her to come by, or strain the human’s arms to get to her vehicle. If my dog sees a white Amazon van...he thinks its her and goes nuts.
She must spend a ton on treats...and they’re the good, soft ones too. I take care of her at Christma$...plus occasionally buy her a box of dog treats.
What’s the common thread shared by most of these cities ?
Besides the fact that Hillary Clinton would say most of the residents look alike !
Having read tens of thousands of Water Meters over the years I’ve never been bitten by any Dog. I’m always packing a few Dog Biscuits in My pocket and kept a box of them in the truck.
I will say that the meanest of them is a freaking Chihuahua !!! Give Me a Dobie or a Pit Bull anytime.
