Trapped in a psych ward: Michigan doc pre-signed blank forms that can rob you of your freedom
WXYZ ^ | February 28, 2024 | Heather Catallo

During the pandemic, 7 Investigator Heather Catallo started investigating these allegations. She spent hundreds of hours during the last two years talking with patients, former employees, and mental health experts, and reviewing hundreds of documents.

“I’ll never forget it. I’ll never get over it.” That’s how Bri Jackson describes her stay inside a local psychiatric hospital – a stay Bri says never should have happened.

“If you would have told me that something like that would happen, I would find it so hard to believe in the United States of America,” said another patient, who asked for anonymity, about their stay in the same psych ward.

These patients and others are alleging they were locked up and held against their will in Pontiac General Hospital’s psychiatric unit, or coerced into staying for treatment for illnesses they say they do not have.

If you’ve encountered a situation like this at a local hospital please email us at hcatallo@wxyz.com

Very few people have been willing to talk publicly about what’s going on behind the closed doors of a locked psychiatric ward.  But now patients, parents, and employees are coming forward to talk to us about what they say are their experiences with the psychiatric treatment at some local hospitals and with psychiatrist Dr. Nagy Kheir.

After the 7 Investigators started asking questions in the probate courts about Dr. Kheir last spring, he suddenly resigned from one of the hospitals where he was in charge. But he’s still working for at least two other hospitals where patients say he has all the power over them.

VIDEO: HEAR FROM DR. KHEIR

Thanks Liz!

Yep and he worked at three hospitals as of this article. Just raking in the funds. They come over here and know how to scam the system.

from the article:

“So let’s look at how much Pontiac General is getting for all of those in-patient stays.

Dr. Kheir was the chief psychiatrist there from 2016 through April 2023.

Medicaid pays for patients through the Oakland and Wayne County community health networks.

In Wayne County, the hospital’s contract calls for at least $880 a day for in-patient care.

In Oakland County, according to the contract, the hospital can bill for at least $950 a day.

That means Bri Jackson’s stay racked up at least $7,600 in Medicaid fees for the hospital.

Since 2017, the Oakland Community Health Network has paid Pontiac General $24,261,583.22 in Medicaid mental health payments.

$6,712,193.22 of that was for Bipolar diagnoses, and $14,023,171.10 was for Psychosis diagnoses – two common labels court records show patients are given on those clinical certificates that are used to hold them.”

*******************************

I’ll figure the most in the area are Medicaid. These places have learned how to bill Medicaid and get more money.

Basically a foreign shrink running a Medicaid and insurance scam

Was my thought -- follow the money.

Normally it's hard to do a Form 5 on someone, who obviously needs it. There almost has to be some immanent risk involved.

“. These places often cut off all contact with families.”

why do these places do this? That is what this article spoke about. Does your wife say why? That just makes the matters worse. Loved ones not knowing where their family member is and the sick person not getting support.

The problem is most often in rural hospitals

This in not in a rural hospital. This is in a big city hospital in a major metropolitan area.

This is just a lying SOB and a system that protects him because they make money off the situation.

Nope.

No most in the area are not on Medicaid and they are not the place where the real money is. The real money is when you get people who work for any of the big three or are retired from the big three. They have really good insurance and you can get twice as much from them as you can from Medicaid.

Michigan...kinda figures.

Another reason to distrust the courts.

Coming to a community near you if the wrong people get control.

By the way, I’m not depressed...I just have the appropriate reaction to the world as it is.

That’s not how she works.

She spent 30 years working with veterans and understands them well. When I first visited her house many years ago before we were married, I opened her desk drawer to grab a pen and there was a handful of 45 auto bullets. I picked them up and asked her about them. She explained that a vet was threatening suicide and she convinced him to give her the bullets from his gun. Having a gun taken from a vet is too traumatic as it is a security blanket that provides much comfort. It would have made the situation worse.

She understands.

Much of what she did was to protect men from their Philippino wives who were taking advantage of them.

I totally agree with you.

Some states have a 3 day mandatory full psych evaluation after commitment. If there were influencing factors such as drug reactions or chemical imbalances, they may be fine after three days.

The separation helps you to understand the triggering influences. Many times there is abuse from a partner, male or female. You must rule it out before you expose them.

True. And tens of thousands of nut jobs who have no insurance are free to roam the highways and byways of America causing harm and damage wherever they go.

Absolutely.
