Probably the second worst thing about living in Florida, #1 being hurricanes.
Ran through a swarm of them on the interstate and I literally needed a nuclear powered power wash to clean the car.
Well I guess the winners are the car wash owners.

Spray the front of your car with PAM or other cooking spray.
They won’t stick or harm your paint..................

No they are silent. Birds won’t eat them. They stink and taste awful if you ever get one in your mouth riding a motorcycle.
They have no known predators or enemies besides automobiles.
They seem to be attracted by car exhaust.............

I think we have a similar bug here in Texas. Solid black and soft. As children, my brother and I nicknamed them “Charlie bugs” for some reason. Their numbers don’t get out of control, thankfully.
I wonder what their purpose is if they’re not good for food?

And if you don’t wash them off the residue will eat your paint.

I used to go on fishing trips up north around this time of the year. Our preliminary route took us along the Illinois river. Occasionally, we would hit the mayfly hatch. It was worse than any Cicada infestation that was suppose to happen this year. The Cicada hatch was localized . My parent’s country club was infested with them, but a mile away where they lived there was not even a chirp.

I never had a bike without a windshield just because of Hazzards like this...of course that didn’t keep a bee from flying up my shirt sleeve once. 😏

They don’t seem to have a purpose. They don’t live long, they mate and die. They hatch out twice a year in spring and fall and that’s about it.............

I miss bugs on the windshield in summer. Our ecosystem was undoubtedly healthier when we had them.
