Earlier in 2023, top American lawmaker Rich McCormick, while addressing the US House of Representatives, said that Indian-Americans constitute about one per cent of the US population but pay about six per cent of the taxes. Does it ring a bell?
Interestingly, Indians are the highest-earning ethnic group in the US — ahead of people from countries like China and Japan.
About 4 million Indians currently reside in the US, including 1.6 million visa holders, 1.4 million naturalised residents, and a million are US-born residents.
The median family earnings of Indians in the US is USD 123,700, nearly double the nationwide average of USD 63,922. About 79 per cent of Indians are college graduates, compared to the nationwide average of 34 per cent, according to the report.
In fact, Indians are ahead of all the other ethnic groups in the US in median family earnings ranges. Taiwanese and Filipinos, with USD 97,129 and USD 95,000 of median family incomes, respectively, are in second and third place.
But why? The data highlights that 79 per cent of the Indian-American population in America holds a Bachelor's degree, while the national average is just 28 per cent, surpassing the overall American population in terms of wealth and college education.
In January 2023, Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, took to Twitter to share a chart that shows Indian Americans having the highest median household income in the US.

Everyone says Indians are super-racist and only hire other Indians.
But my boss of one year (out of seven total) in a Fortune 50 is Indian, and he hired me and a white woman for the top two positions in one of his teams.
So they should hold only 1.3% of IT jobs then.

White American Christians are a minority at the Ivies as well as at Stanford, Chicago, and MIT. The biggest beneficiaries of the abolition of affirmative action at those institutions will be Asians (East and south) and Jews. It ain’t going to be Billy Ray Campbell from the Ozarks (and if we want a meritocracy at said institutions nor should it be).
White Christain males invented about 90% of the things you use on a daily basis. So screw off.
I work with a lot of Indians. For the most part, good, honest people.
White gentile male (former Christian) here: in 2024, a meritocracy favors those ethnicities with higher IQs and a ferocious focus on academics in the harder sciences. Us white gentile dudes will do just fine, but we will not dominate the elite universities as we did until the 1950s/60s.

They are Americans of Indian heritage. Not just off the boat. Most recent Indian I met was the anesthesiologist when I had compound fracture of wrist repaired two months ago.. I told him how extremely sensitive I am to a anesthesia and he did it perfectly.
Not only that, the physical therapist at my orthopedist’s office is a muslim guy. Surgeon is totally American, looks like he’s descended from Mayflower passengers. Physical therapist’s face lit up when he saw the wonderful progress this unveiled white woman made with her wrist.
If my Black MD from Nigeria took a job away from an American MD, I’m glad he did. I’ve lived all over the country and been all over the world and never had a better MD. Incidentally, he saw through the covid crap immediately, thought I didn’t need those awful clot shots.

Mine were illiterate kids from Wales, indentured servants who worked for years on the Caribbean island of Nevis, cutting down forests before the Blacks came In and planted banana trees. That’s really nice to know. But I’m not surprised. I don’t think he got his great job by being prejudiced in his hiring practices or other functions. In my experience, the higher. you go, the the more merit-based you are. My Japanese friend’s sister recently became some extremely high-level exec at J.P. Morgan Chase.

As Reagan said when Governor of California, “I don’t care if every seat is taken by an Asian if they’ve earned the right to be there.”
There's also another factor at work here. This 'Indian guy' was born in America and grew up here. He's 100% Americanized. That's why to him, merit is the only consideration. He hired myself and my coworker because we are freakin' amazing. :)

Orthopedist gave me some kind of opioid med for compound fracture of wrist and I hated them, just took a few, tossed the rest or I’d send them if they would help at all.
Hard to imagine my Nigerian MD being arrogant. All of his patient really like him and his nurses and PA find him delightful. I’ve had terrific laughs with him, feel like we’re friends. In fact, we go to the same gym and he told me the exact day and time I could meet him there in conversation with his nurse in the room. Personable as can be.
Last time I saw him, several months ago, he’d just returned from a month back in Nigeria and was uncharacteristically serious and somber. He has family there and also volunteers at local clinics .
