The front page of Friday’s New York Times had a huge, all-caps, single-word headline: “GUILTY.” True enough, but the story that followed was so full of hot-air that I feared the paper in my hands would spontaneously combust.
After recounting the verdict of the Manhattan trial, the story suddenly veered into crazy land. It declared that Donald Trump’s “insurgent behavior delights his supporters as he bulldozes the country’s norms,” and went on to claim: “Now, the man who refused to accept his 2020 election loss is already seeking to delegitimize his conviction, attempting to assert the primacy of his raw political power over the nation’s rule of law.”
The sweeping condemnation surely delighted the Trump haters who dominate the paper’s staff and readership, and likely will appear in a future Pulitzer application. Yet the same facts could have been conveyed more clearly and fairly simply by saying that Trump is appealing the verdict, is still running for president and has a very good chance of winning.
But straight-forward facts don’t have a chance in hell when the Gray Lady’s got a narrative to spin and a political agenda to push.
The agenda is to re-elect Joe Biden and that means spinning the narrative that Trump is a wrecking ball who “bull-dozes the country’s norms.”
It’s dressed-up fear mongering.
That’s not to deny that the former president is a tough and mercurial customer who sometimes goes too far, but he’s an amateur when it comes to breaking norms.
Six legal attacks
Democrats are the world champions. Party prosecutors and lawyers have brought six–yes, six!–criminal and civil cases against Trump since he left office.

Oddly enough, the headline woulda read “WAR” if the same lawfare had happened to Obumbo yet he actually committed a multitude of crimes against US.
I wonder which Republican will be the next to get the “lawfare treatment.”
DeSantis, Paxton, Rand.
He’s more than just a warrior.
He just shook Joe Rogan’s hand at the UFC event. Rogan has steadfastly refused to interview Trump up to this point. But this NY nonsense may have won him over.
That will be a huge game-changer, if Trump goes on Rogan’s show.
Trump isn’t worried because he know how the movie ends. And we’re very near the ending.
Ever the happy warrior. May God bless Donald Trump!
Good suggestion.
A legend.
Oh Desantis is next the indictment for his Martha’s Vineyard stunt is waiting in the bullpen.
He sees through the fog of lawfare and he doesn’t run away from it.
“I wonder which Republican will be the next to get the ‘lawfare treatment.’”
Bannon already has, and is just biding his time for that knock on the door to take him to prison; he’s already been sentenced. It’ll probably be in July, to hobble him before the election.
I think it was Caroline Wren who said that at the moment Trump’s jury came back with the verdict, four others were served, one of which is Kari Lake.
This cannot be happening in America. Why is “our side” so silent? They got all blustery the day of, and the day following the verdict, but now it’s silence.
The Congress critters are off and at home this week, supposedly to meet with constituents. The War Room people did some research and not one is holding meetings, town halls, etc., back home, so it’s just another vacation. They could be taking emergency flights back to DC to deal with the current issue ... but they’re not.
“He’s more than just a warrior.”
He has Divine support.
Trump is a Holy Warrior. Historians will call this the age of Trump. He will, like Washington be acclaimed president in November and all who tried to stop him will fall by the wayside. KARMA!
I wouldn’t call it karma, which is a very un-Christian concept. I would more likely call it RIGHTEOUS JUDGEMENT by God.
Haley the Hindu would go with “karma”. And I hope she’s a victim of it soon because of her actions to undercut and sabotage PDJT. She truly believes she’ll be nominated for POTUS at the RNC Convention.
He’s a speed bump on their fascism path.
I think they are going slow on DeSantis and will ramp up when Trump is done and DeSantis gets ambitions outside of FL.
