Three passengers are suing American Airlines after alleging employees from the company removed a total of eight Black men from a flight due to a complaint about a passenger with body odor.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, claims that as American Airlines Flight 832 from Phoenix to New York was boarding in January, American Airlines employees removed eight Black men from the plane allegedly over a complaint about "offensive body odor."
Video central to the lawsuit displayed a group of Black men who were not traveling together and did not know each other being removed from the flight. According to the suit, they were the only Black passengers on the flight.
Emmanuel Jean Joseph, Alvin Jackson and Xavier Veal — the three plaintiffs— were on a connecting flight from Los Angeles. The three allege that at no point throughout the other flight did any employee from American Airlines say anything to them about an offensive odor.
Jean Joseph told CBS News senior transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave that as he gathered his belongings and walked to the jet bridge, he noticed that only Black men were being removed from the flight.

“a group of Black men who were not traveling together and did not know each other being removed from the flight.”
I don’t believe that for a minute. Sounds made up. Dollars to doughnuts this was a carefully choreographed project to instigate a racial situation. And if any of them had dreadlocks ... PEE-EW!
I worked with a guy years ago, clean-cut white guy, brilliant engineer, but he had horrible BO. (Not from pot).
I also worked with another guy, Indian, and he had BO but not really noticeable. Sitting next to him in a meeting room was not fun.
I guess I am lucky, I can go 3-4 days without a shower and still don’t stink.
Yeah, I think there is more to this story...
I once sat behind a woman on a plane (thankfully a short flight) who reeked! I thought my cat (who was in a carrier at my feet) had had an accident. But when I checked her, there was nothing there, and the smell went away as we deboarded.
... Until I got to the baggage claim area and the same woman stepped in front of me to grab a bag and that stank hit me upside my head once again. Maybe some combo of bad food and bad hygiene. ... it honestly made me feel ill.
Years ago I had an early morning accounting class that included three Chinese students. Every morning they smelled like a Chinese restaurant, very strong wok oil odor. I thought “...at 7 AM?”.
I’ve had plenty of smelly experiences on airliners and never seen anyone removed from a plane.
So there is more to this story, maybe in the behavior of these young men or the AA staff. Or, perhaps an intel warning that no one will speak of.
I worked a month in Venice awhile back. Air conditioning was used sparingly and deodorant was scarce. By afternoon everyone stunk.

Yes and you can tell the crack cookers too they smell like cat piss.
I had a friend in high school who showered multiple times a day, particularly in summer, and had BO that would knock over a water buffalo. He tried everything, the poor guy.
His younger brother did not have this problem.
I have an odor complaint about this whole article.
Some people never took that one hour and 25 minute Royal Jordanian flight from Baghdad to Amman in the summertime and it shows. 😜
I'm laughing so hard now I can hardly breathe. Thanks for the laugh! Bwahahahaha!!!
A smell so bad you can see it.
. . . or had to use the bathroom at Queen Alia airport. Gag. Puke. Barf. Retch. Be damaged for life, never to be the same afterwards.
Crack cookers smell like burnt plastic
Meth cookers smell like cat piss or that’s what I’ve been told
Those Rasta locks can hold a power full amount of Ganja smell. They are a Ganja magnet!
Yes — like PigPen in the Charlie Brown comic ... flies & visible “stink waves” coming off of the person ...
There are some cases of some people with a medical condition that causes really offensive body odor and even after a shower the smell exudes very quickly. It’s called Bromhidrosis, IIRC.
I was eating in a Burger King once, the place was almost empty at the time. A person of Asian descent (not black) sat down not far from me. The odor was so bad I had to move well away from him so I wouldn’t vomit.
I can’t imagine how awful it would be to be cooped up in an airliner with someone like that.
One hot day at UT Austin I was getting in the elevator to go to my lab on the 3rd floor. A woman from India got on with me who had most horrible B.O. I ever smelled. I literally had to hold my breath or I would have barfed.
