Among the realities of military life on Continental United States (CONUS) military installations is the disarmament of military members. The only service members allowed to carry arms are those whose Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) requires it. For the most part, that means only military police officers can carry arms, and even those troops are restricted as to time and place. They pick up their arms and ammunition just before going on duty, and return them to the armory immediately after going off duty.
It's one of the ironies of military life that those trusted with military grade weapons to protect American liberty are not allowed to carry the common handguns civilians take for granted. They are, on our military installations, less safe than civilians shopping at WalMart. Military dependents are likewise prohibited from carrying arms on base and are equally vulnerable.
Attacks on military installations such as the Ft. Hood attack on November 5, 2009 where a Muslim Army psychiatrist—there’s irony—killed 13, and the Washington Navy Yard attack of Sept. 16, 2013, where 12 were killed and more were injured have drawn attention to the vulnerability of our service members. We’re currently seeing multiple attempts every week.
During Donald Trump’s presidency there was some talk of significantly expanding the numbers of armed service members, but little or nothing came of it. Even then, the Obama fundamental transformation of our military from war fighters to social justice warriors had done enormous damage, and the possibility of protecting our service members under the Biden Administration is nonexistent.

I have entered many military bases in my engineering career. I observed many vulnerabilities to terrorist attack. I don’t want to say what they were, but they are still there. I am not even sure the entrance guards even had ammo in their guns.

Troops not being allowed to carry loaded/unloaded firearms is nothing new and has been a standard practice for decades.
The only time I know for certain they could be carried is in a war zone. When I was in a war zone I carried my weapon 24/7 with a full magazine. At night it was in my wall locker or beside me. The only weapon of mine they locked up when not needed was my M60.
We have an airbase a few miles off where we shop at the commissary. IMO security their security is pretty good. You’ve got to be ID’d just to get on base. The gate has obstacles so one has to slowly zig zag to get in.

Actor James Woods encountered a situation on a flight from Boston to Los Angeles that raised suspicions. Approximately a month before the September 11 attacks, Woods observed four men of apparent Middle Eastern origin acting strangely during the flight.
According to reports, these men did not eat, drink, read, or sleep throughout the entire cross-country journey. Instead, they remained upright in their seats, occasionally conversing in low tones.
Woods reported his observations to a flight attendant, who unfortunately shrugged off his concerns. Upon arriving in Los Angeles, he informed airport authorities, but they also seemed unwilling to become involved. While Woods noticed unusual behavior and did report it, some of the initial news reports contained inaccuracies regarding the timing and details of his actions.
The events surrounding the 9/11 attacks prompted significant soul-searching and discussions about signs that were noticed but not adequately heeded. Unfortunately, in this case, the suspicious behavior Woods observed did not lead to preventive measures before the tragic events unfolded.
The flight attendant did not shrug it off and he spoke to the captain with his concerns. The caption was interested and forwarded the concern.
Obama & Biden should have been put in situations where there was suspicious activity long enough to get a taste of the possible danger.

Something about the French NCOs in France, wearing their pistols as part of their everyday work uniform, had pistols that were loaded.
One told me about how during the bad American military race problems era like the race riot on the Kitty Hawk in 1972 his American Marine officer friend told him there were parts of the ship he could not walk through because of the black enlisted men, and the French NCO pointed out that leaders in the French military are armed and that such situations would not be tolerated.

I recall entering the main bar at Schofield Barracks NCO Club in Hawaii about 1975 where the entire patronage was black. The girl tending bar was Asian and would not serve me, as I am white. The looks I got walking into that room was priceless. I never went back as there were other places to get a beer without fear.
The black racism in the military was astounding for many years, militant blacks were taking over everything.
Speaking of looks, at Ft. Sill my running buddy was a powerful and dangerous Black Panther leader, he and I would walk into a big black bar down in the impact area and my presence would of course get the backs up of everyone, but he would take the owner or bartender aside or into a back room and speak to him and suddenly I was no longer a problem.
While it was fascinating to watch and experience, the fear he instilled in his fellow blacks was also a little disturbing, I never could get the details on parts of his deeply secret black power life.

I was ship’s company in USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) during that so-called “race riot.” It was NOT a “race riot!”
A small group of low-intelligence racist black sailors roamed the ship beating up individual white sailors - there were AlWAYS more blacks than whites! IOW, GANG-TYPE BEATDOWNS.
AND, THERE WAS NO WHITE RETALIATION! AFAIK, NO BLACK SAILORS WERE INJURED. ONLY WHITE!
The Navy did not tell the truth about that incident! IMHO had Navy INTEL & PR done its duty properly, these kinds of incidents would not has festered into the major racial problems that the Navy had in later years.
BTW, after the bad guys were shipped off to stand for their Court Martials, Kitty Hawk finished the ‘72 WESTPAC cruise without further incidents.
I am proud, to this day, that not one of my sailors, black or white, was involved in this shameful event!
I was in the Army at the time and watched a Kitty Hawk protest in downtown Tacoma.
Rereading my post it sounded like I was saying the Marine was on the Kitty Hawk, I was using the Kitty Hawk incident as an example or a marker for a period, an era.
I did not take your comment personally.
I have, since 1972, been taking every opportunity presented to me to quash the Kitty Hawk “race riot” image presented by the MSM and Navy PR.
The era was marked by LBJ agreeing to allow young men and women to enlist in the military who were not high school graduates and could not pass the ASVAB with a high enough score to qualify for a “regular” enlistment; i.e., they were not very smart, nor were they socialized to “normal” society. Many of them were drug users. Many of them were thugs. It was woke DEI before there was woke DEI.
And, LBJ’s experiment damn near ruined the US Military!
All anyone needs to know is that a small group (IIRC, 27 court martials resulted) of black thugs decided to beat up on individual white sailors using tiedown chains and door wrenches. It is a wonder that no one died!
In respect of any US protests as a result of the publicity surrounding the incident, we know how that works! I was still in Kitty Hawk when the merry band of racist provocateurs were “demonstrating.” It was a tale told by idiots! They had no idea what happened in Kitty Hawk, and probably wouldn’t have cared.
