I need guidance. I have a company in Orlando and the IT company we use just notified us Monday that they've engaged a company out of DC that will now block all these sites (see list) which I'm certain will be patriotic, conservative and/or Christian. I need help to find a company that loves our nation allowing me to switch this service. Anecdotally, one of my co workers sends a devotional email every single morning (and has for 10 years). Since the implementation of this screening software it's taking 12 hours + to arrive in anyone's inbox.
Here's an excerpt of the IT co's email:
The following website categories will be blocked by default: (you have to "love" the word "hate" as we know that's code for conservative/Christian)
Blogs and Personal Sites Dating and Personals Gambling Media Sharing P2P and Illegal Weapons Adult Content Drugs Entertainment Games Hacking and Cracking Streaming Media Webmail and Chat Alcohol and Tobacco Contentious and Misinformation Social Networking Terrorism and Hate File Sharing Sites VPN/Proxy Sites
Get a new job... Your company can block whatever they want
I have little sympathy as I think we need to respect our employers. As a company owner I would not want and have not wanted my employees spending my dime on their personal pursuits.
You didnt read very closely what he wrote.
What services do they do for you exactly? Just keep YOUR servers running? Are you self hosted?
I’ll bet there is someone here who would love to do that for you DEPENDING on the server situation?
All it takes is one good IT tech to set it on autopilot for you and check in now and then. You probably DO NOT need a whole company to do that for you.
I own the company
good grief
Years ago, in a Massachusetts library, I noticed Freerepublic was blocked.
Do you own the company? If not, they can block any website they want.
Is it your company? If not......
You may like it but it's simply not appropriate for the work setting. One's religious leanings are PERSONAL and should remain PERSONAL. It should be sent to people privately and NOT on the company's server.
It's the same thing as some douchey lib sending political crap, frankly.
Good grief? Look, I’ve owned my own companies for over 25 years, plus been in management roles at others. Most companies are clear, no personal use of the company Internet, phones, etc. At many companies and for contractors at government sites, it is a termination-level violation. If you are at work, being paid to work, then work. If you are on break, on lunch, on your own time, do what you want, but use your own resources. That is, unless the company says you can use theirs. What is so difficult or controversial about that?
I apologize. I misread your post. Just get another IT company if they don’t see things your way.
really appreciate the response.
They are IT support and host (?) servers, but the website is hosted by another entity.
My ops manager handles the bulk of all this but I really got my hackles up when I got that list and the delayed emails now happening.
If so, fire your IT staff. ๐ค๐๐
It seems like most people didn’t read or understand your post, maybe it’s me. It sounds like the Internet Service Provider you use for your company is doing the blocking, is that correct?
“That’s an issue to take up with your employer. Most don’t allow non-work-related email anyway, plus they are paying for the service. Just use your own phone, wireless, and service.
I have little sympathy as I think we need to respect our employers. As a company owner I would not want and have not wanted my employees spending my dime on their personal pursuits.”
He IS the employer. An employer looking for suggestions for a new IT provider.
bunch of nazis on FR. We love CHRIST in my office and choose to send anything we want.
I’ll be sure to never hire you.
Okay, your company! That is a different story. You need to ask your IT guy why he is allowing the filtering. Fix it, fire him if he won't, change Internet providers if you have to. Again, your company, your dime, your rules!
Sorry, I missed that it was your company.
Thank GOD there are people here that can read; I was really beginning to worry.
Side note, but don’t conservatives like freedom anymore?
It’s actually the IT support co we contracted with and I do not want to switch to another commie entity and be in the same boat. I need to find another company that LOVES AMERICA that offers this same service.
