FDA Says Cicadas Aren’t Safe To Eat If You’re Allergic To Seafood (Yes, Some People Are Eating Them)
Forbes - You Tube ^ | Jun 2, 2021 | Joe Walsh - Forbes Staff

TOPLINE Billions of Brood X cicadas have emerged in the United States after over a decade underground, causing gourmands to draw up recipes and prepare for a once-every-17-years culinary opportunity — but the Food and Drug Administration says people who are allergic to seafood should cut cicadas out of their diets because they’re too similar to shellfish.

(Snip...)

Cicadas pose a risk because they’re closely related to crustaceans like shrimp and lobster: Insects and crustaceans are both arthropods, and researchers say they probably shared a common ocean-dwelling ancestor millions of years ago.

Aren’t insects animals? I wonder if the PETA folks have come out against eating bugs.

The NYTimes calls them “the lobsters of the trees”:

Mud bugs, aka crawfish, are delicious. Had a plate of fried crawfish tails, hush puppies, cole slaw and french fries a couple of days ago at a cajun restaurant. However, I draw the line at cicadas.

I was in Pennsylvania in the 1980s Cicada event. Local news report had a guy frying them in olive oil and garlic

Government: “Climate Change will kill us all! Our only hope is to eat bugs!”

Some people: “Look at these cicadas! I will eat them!”

Government: “Don’t do that! Eating bugs will kill you!”

People: “Heeeeeeeyyyyyyyyy ...”

Unfortunately people taste more like cattle- red meat.

Cannibals claimed humans taste like pork, hence the Melanesian pidgin term "long pig".

Experts.

If you eat too many, they could be harmful. If you eat too many hamburgers, it could be harmful. If you drink too much water, it could be harmful.

Human is generally very greasy; almost too fatty to eat.

My chickens eat the bugs, and I eat the eggs. So, I’m eating the bugs indirectly.

That makes more sense than what I wrote, because of human diets. I based my opinion on one article from many years ago.

That is the same way I get my vegetables.
