GROOM, Texas (KVII) — The couple killed in a shootout with law enforcement on I-40 near Groom was transporting more than $3 million worth of cocaine purchased from a Mexican drug cartel.
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee said it began investigating Edward Stevenson, 60, and Elizabeth Stevenson, 51, through undercover drug buys.
On Thursday, detectives executed a search warrant at their home in Cookeville, about 90 minutes east of Nashville.
They seized 3/4 of a pound of methamphetamine, fentanyl, multiple firearms, body armor and ammunition.
At the time of the search, detectives received information that the Stevensons were driving a semi-truck back through Texas with illegal drugs and were armed.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, the couple said they would die by “suicide by cop” if law enforcement attempted to stop them.

If you can’t do the time don’t do the crime. $3 million in coke would doubtless send you away for decades and at their age means good chance of dying in prison.
Some people think that legalizing drugs will stop this.

They also believe that drugs will be “safe” if the government makes them legal.
Funny how they had no problem releasing their photos and information, I wonder why they can’t do this with most criminals ?

Again, that seems an odd bit of data to be known to the cops. How'd they find that out? And it seems very convenient. Are sure it's a real bit of data?
