You think the receive EBT cards?
How the barber cut my hair when my dad took me to the barbershop when I was a kid.
It is if she is on government assistance.
[Wasn’t she supposed to be *teaching*?]
It’s pre-k. Not much instruction goes on beyond letters and numbers. Most of it is supervised play.
[Of course you can wash them]
Not according to what the black women I work with told me. They said they didn’t wash their hair until they take the braids out.
People I know wash them; but it may depend on the type of braid.
how do I ( or you )know that though? she may have a job. She does not owe the world an explanation, I don’t think so at least.
Where does the washing part come in. I admit having scant knowledge in this sort of thing, but sounds to me like the girl’s hair hadn’t been washed for three weeks. The pre-school woman probably felt sorry for her.
Locs are dreadlocks or teased hair put in twisted curls. It cannot be combed but can be washed. just wash and go.
I had a friend who had some. She ended up shaving her head to get rid of them. I was so afraid of what might be hiding
in there.
You put them on bakels. With a smear of cream chi.
Black hair has a very different texture and requires special care. To get a cure, shiny sheen requires a lot of time and specific conditioners and products.
You cannot treat it the same way as Caucasian hair.
Moreover, that style would have lasted at least two months with proper maintenance.
I would be livid.
They’re not always teased or even twisted. Often they’re just tightly braided, like the picture in the article. But they can be damaging to the scalp if not done right.
Black people stuff. Always victims of white supremacy...
Well that’s not the point. A parent can do any sort of beautification they want for their kids. That teacher had no right to do what she did.
Nah my mom had my hair cut short so it was manageable
I agree there, and I would be griping if the article said she was on govvie assistance cause that’s just wrong. But it did not so they need to MTOB.
Black hair is very dry and fragile. So locs or dreadlocks are a way to style the hair with that in mind. (My college roommate who was black helped me appreciate this. Her hair routine took up about all of Saturday for Sunday and the rest of the week.)
Teacher had no business messing with the kid’s hair. If teacher doesn’t have boundaries there, where else does Teacher not respect boundaries.
But I too find it hard to grasp a $150 hair style on a 4 Y/O .
Humans are very strange some times.
Having said that, unless the child has lice or their hair is caught in a fan teachers should keep their hands off.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Dreadlocks and braids are certainly an improvement on the health of the hair and scalp, compared with all the chemical straightening the ladies used to do.
(But it does amaze me how people can sit through the time it often takes to do this; I couldn’t do it unless I had a really compelling book to read. I’m not good at sitting still.)
Wrong. These are 3rd worlders squatting in the first world. A creation of their betters they can neither comprehend nor behave well in. The idiotic hairstyles and ghettofied names should make it obvious. To be fair, bad hair may necessitate bad hairstyles.
