Snapping turtles are mean. Compared to a snapping turtle, an alligator is relatively docile!.................

Quite true. In the Florida countryside, I have picked up both smallish alligators and large snapping turtles that had stopped on the road as they pondered their next move. Pound for pound, snapping turtles are nastier and usually more dangerous.

We have both here and real alligators have been seen in the Tennessee River. Fresh water here is NOT safe.

Snapping turtles are slow, and vulnerable on land. They strike out in fear.
