In the early 1980s, the UK could not keep up with demand for Factor VIII, which was made by pooling - or mixing - the blood plasma of thousands of individual donors.
Instead the treatment was shipped from the US.
In the UK, blood donations have always been voluntary, but in the US, drug companies were allowed to pay cash for plasma.
High risk groups, from prisoners to drug users, had a clear financial incentive to give blood and potentially lie about their medical history.
Evidence uncovered by campaigners and seen by the ongoing public inquiry into the wider contaminated blood scandal shows that, as the risk from Aids started to become known, a series of clear warnings were sent to the UK government.
In May 1983, Dr Spence Galbraith, the director of the UK's Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre, wrote to Dr Ian Field, the senior principal medical officer at the Department of Health, urging that all US blood products should be withdrawn from use until the risk of Aids was "clarified".
The letter from the British embassy in Washington - which Panorama has now seen - was also sent to Dr Field, just a month later on 28 June 1983.
In it, an embassy official describes a meeting with a representative from the US Centers for Disease Control's Aids taskforce.
The transmission of HIV in blood was discussed, he writes. Haemophiliacs were "most at risk" from the "dubious habits" of some paid American blood donors, and the mixing of thousands of those donations to make Factor VIII.
NHS patients continued to be given untreated Factor VIII imported from the US until at least 1985.
Many of those involved in decisions in the 1980s are no longer alive, including Dr Ian Field.

I wonder if Fauci knew about this? It would not surprise me. Wasn't he a senior advisor at the time?
Any Freeper research or knowledge on this appreciated!
And it’s funny, I just read minutes before seeing this FR post that Isaac Asimov died from a blood transfusion infected by HIV.
“Ten years after his death, Janet Asimov’s edition of his autobiography, It’s Been a Good Life, revealed that the myocardial and renal complications her husband suffered from were the result of an infection by HIV, which Isaac had contracted from a blood transfusion received during his bypass operation. Janet wrote in the epilogue that Isaac had wanted to go public about his illness, but his doctors convinced him to remain silent, warning that the anti-AIDS prejudice would likely extend to his family members”.

The blood scandal is getting a lot of coverage in the UK the public inquiry is reporting soon
Here is a good primer:

I’m interested to know what Fauci and the CDC knew at the time it looks like they had voiced concerns in this memo which mentions Dr Peter Drotman, who is listed by the CDC as an editor of the infectious disease journal.
Fauci at the time would have been a senior advisor to the president. We’re going back 40 years though.
My Godson died of AIDS in the early 80s from a blood transfusion during surgery after a car accident….this was in San Francisco…he was 22…
……
Sounds like this could be a can of worms then if US prisoners and druggies were giving the UK contaminated blood it might mean others were too.
Like I said, from this sites and a US perspective it’ll be interesting to know what the CDC knew and why they allowed this to go on
The letter above is dated 1983 and the BBC says it was going on much later than that
Huge story about this witb Clinton and Arkansas state prisons, when he was governor.
Thanks will look into it
I have a friend whose brother was a hemophiliac during this time. He says that virtually every one of them in the US during this era died of aids, as did his brother.
And now the government wants faggots to be allowed to donate blood again.
An ER nurse I used to work with contracted HIV *and* Hep C from a needle stick during a code. Her life since then has been a living hell.
Arthur Ashe, the famous tennis star, contracted AIDS from a blood transfusion he received during open heart surgery.
Afaik that ship sailed.
Homosexuals are back in the loop bank.
Bill Clinton was collecting blood from prisoners and selling for profit
Canada was caught up in the scandal
Very interesting he is caught up in this scandal
Needs more research....
The year Bill Clinton became governor of Arkansas, the Arkansas state prison board awarded a hefty contract to a Little Rock company called Health Management Associates (HMA). The company got $3 million a year to run medical services for the state’s awful prison system, which had been excoriated in a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court as an “evil place run by some evil men.”
HMA not only made money from providing medical care to prisoners, but it also started a profitable side venture: blood mining. The company paid prisoners $7 a pint to have their blood drawn [about half what urban skid road blood suckers pay for winos’ blood]. HMA then sold the blood on the international plasma market for $50 a pint, with half of that going to the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Corruption among the administrators of the prison blood program and poor supervision resulted in disease-tainted blood, often carrying hepatitis or HIV, knowingly being shipped to blood brokers, who in turn shipped it to Canada, Europe, and Asia. Revelation of the misdeeds and the healthcare crisis it created in Canada nearly brought down the Liberal Party government in 1997.
They were still running it in the late 80s!
Thanks for all this information
The Clintons’ interrelations with this scandal was a substantial part - included reported forced extraction from prisoners in Arkansas. Canada had its own large trail of victims as well.
IIRC, a kid with the last name of “White” too.
I remember this being a pretty big topic on FR years ago. If it is rotten and corrupt, the Clinton’s are probably involved.
