Applebee's is to close another 35 further locations this year, after shutting 46 in 2023.
The restaurant chain has shut at least three locations so far this year and has plans to close even more, president Tony Moralejo said in an earnings call on Wednesday.
Closing restaurants was 'an incredibly difficult decision' and a 'last resort' for the company, Moralejo said.
The American grill chain, famous for its $10 burgers and 'dollaritas', closed 46 of its more than 1,500 locations due to 'underperformance' last year.
The franchise - which competes with the likes of Waffle House and Denny's - has been shutting hundreds of restaurants since 2017.
Hudson, 120 miles north of New York City, is one such location affected by the most recent round of closures.
Hudson's neighborhood Applebee's will shut its doors on May 19.
Workers impacted by the shutdown have been offered other jobs within the franchise, WTEN reported.
'We greatly appreciate our neighbors' patronage for the past 15 years and have loved being a part of this neighborhood,' a spokesperson for the local franchise said.
'We hope to see you at our neighboring restaurants throughout the Albany and Hudson Valley markets' they added.
'Consumer caution with respect to economic conditions persisted following the holiday period and as a result the consumer has become more price sensitive,' John Peyton, CEO of parent company Dine Brands said during the earnings call on Wednesday.

“Underperforming”. It only makes sense to close them down. Keeping them open is retarded.
Having a bar helped them but the Scamdemic lockdowns likely killed them.
If a Big Mac meal is over $10 how do you expect to take a date out to Applebees?
Bidungomics.
“”I feel like we are in the 1970’s again””
I was working at a very busy Safeway Grocery Store in the 1970s, and witnessed the insanity of Jimmy Carter and democRAT policies. While billions (trillions?) of barrels of oil and natural gas are just below our feet, an oil embargo threatened. We could only get gasoline on certain days. Back in those days, there were no scanners in the checkout. EVERYTHING was price marked with a marking gun. The price of everything was soaring, and Safeway actually hired extra staff to keep up with those price changes.
Ronaldus Magnus came along. Those of us in Kalifornia, when it was spelled California, were very familiar with Governor Reagan, and we knew what could be done. President Reagan’s first few years were difficult, but we stayed the course, Americans were inspired, and the Free Market proved once again the best avenue for wealth creation. Reagan and Rush have both stated that what hinders countries and causes more poverty is the unequal distribution of the free enterprise.
Re: restaurant closures. How many of these businesses are in democRAT run areas??
“restaurant closures. How many of these businesses are in democRAT run areas??”
Better yet how many of these business are ran by demoRATS, you know ones like Targay, Butt light? They are losing business and we are just waiting for them to close and go under because they don’t know how to run a business?
Wife was so excited to see them gone. After all, they gave her the worst case of food poisoning she has ever had in her life.
Trump was just 3+ years ago. People can remember hopefully. In Carter’s day people thought inflation was inevitable and bought big ticket items earlier than planned knowing the price would rise. It made things worse. Reagan told us otherwise and it’s not like people bought in. It took me until 1984 to believe him. Being younger at the time was a part of the non-thinking.
I saw an Applebee’s closed in 1999 in Austin. Looked like it was in front of an abandoned mall.
Shocked me, for 1999.
I was flown down for a job interview.
I think I was staying at the Baymont hotel next to the highway. Seems like that Applebee’s was not too far from that.
Today I learned that Applebees tries to compete with Waffle House. Unsuccessfully I’d say.
Applebee’s was pretty good in the eighty’s and ninety’s. Seemed like the food went downhill after 2000. Maybe they suffered from too many eateries that copied their success.
And Denny’s too go figure.
By the way, Denny’s has been closing a bunch of their restaurants also.
Applebees is WAY better than Waffle House in my opinion.
There are rumors that Applebee’s has much of their menu pre-made, frozen and mirowaved for the dinner plate.
I’ll guess more than avg are in blue states.
They re-opened later and have in some ways been behind ever since the re-opening.
I remember those days.
Crazy stuff.
Applebees you can at least sit down and be served...we’re losing all the restaurant chains and that just narrows our choices where to eat....I hope Texas Roadhouse is on solid ground.
The one here always has a full parking lot.
