The NFL is close to finalizing a deal with Netflix to carry its upcoming Christmas Day slate. That's fine. Netflix costs anywhere between $6.99 and $22.99 a month.
However, Netflix is yet another bill that fans have to pay to watch the NFL closely this season.
Let's review:
Viewers still need basic cable to watch games on CBS, NBC, Fox, ESPN, ABC and NFL Network. Did we miss any?
Cable options include YouTube TV, DirectTV, Dish, Xfinity, AT&T, Spectrum, etc. etc. On average, cable costs around $80 a month.

To watch the NFL this season, you need cable (ESPN, ABC, Fox, CBS, NBC, NFL Network), Amazon Prime, Netflix, ESPN+, and Peacock. That'll cost you $112.96 a month from September to January, for a total of $451.84.
And that's if you sign up for the lowest packages each service offers.
But, wait, it's not that simple.
Fans still won't have access to whichever games they want at $112.96 a month. That price only gets you about five games a week (sometimes a few more with the occasional Saturday or Sunday morning window).
To choose the games you want, you must purchase NFL Sunday Ticket. Now sold via YouTube – good riddance, DirectTV – Sunday Ticket costs $449 (!!!) a season.

I can get the most of the New England games on over the air TV. I don’t need cable for most of the broadcast games. There hasn’t been much to watch in New England for a few years, so its easy to miss a game.
$0.01. Better that they pay me.
I pretty much just watch highlights now. I can’t sit through an entire game anymore.
I have an antenna and a DVR. Zero additional cost after the initial purchase.
They became “too expensive” when they insulted veterans and other Americans by taking knees during the national anthem.
About 1987.
Well you don’t need cable to watch Fox, CBS, ABC (though I don’t think ABC has games that aren’t on ESPN) and NBC, they’re broadcast. No games are on NFL Network so you don’t need that at all. You need cable OR streaming for ESPN, and you streaming for Amazon and Peacock. And I doubt Netflix will have an exclusive on the Christmas slate, that involves taking games away from the other contracts.
So their math isn’t that great.
No way. FUGEDDABOUDDIT. I hate Netflicks and all those other pay-to-watch channels.
I’ll go do something else.
My guess enough people are like me that the NFL will be forced away from these pay-to-watch channels
Then why would anyone watch? I haven’t watched an NFL game in years. Waste of time. It hasn’t set me back any.

At What Point Is It Too Expensive To Watch The NFL?
—
Since 1960s
Same here, but with baseball, which I still love. I don't have the time, patience, or commitment to any one team to make such a time investment anymore. They priced me out of live games and pay per view a long time ago.
Have fun wasting money
Watch the highlights on youtube about 20 mins after the game is over. If you’re feeling time pressed just FF to the 4th quarter highlights. Instead of 3 hrs with commercials the games over in 5 minutes.
Forget expensive. It’s pointless to invest yourself in a fixed contest.
Players are already overpaid enough
HaHa. Simple, don’t waste your time.
Or you can just find a streaming site and watch it for free.
I didn’t realize I was saving so much money by ignoring the NFL. I feel much better now.
