A month ago, my husband and I went away for a weekend break. The hotel we were staying in had organised an Easter egg hunt for the excited junior guests, and watching the delight on one little girl's face caused a familiar, terrible cascade of emotion. A torrent of grief and regret, which I struggled to hide.
It was the little girl's age that provoked it. She was seven, as I discovered when she told the receptionist while we waited to check in behind her family.
The same age my daughter would be now — had I not had the termination which ended my chance of ever having a child.
Plenty of women terminate accidental pregnancies, of course, and either go on to regret it or never give it a second thought. But this was no accident. The pregnancy I ended happened as a result of IVF.
What's more — and worse I suppose if that were possible — is that I blame my husband for it all. It is his fault I will never have a child like that lovely little girl. How did I get myself into this situation in my life, where I am married to a man who I both love with all my heart and resent to the point of fury?

The other problem is this man and woman wanted to live selfishly getting in all their dates, vacations, achievements, material wealth etc and THEN have children in their thirties still put it off until late thirties and we’re shocked their accessory didn’t happen naturally. Then tried to purchase one via all the donors, IVF, stuff and decided to throw the baby away. Like getting rid of a towel you don’t want anymore .
Sad that the guy in effect said that he couldn’t love a child if he didn’t know who its mother was. A child is more than who it came from, and love isn’t love if it depends on all the right conditions.
Because of the increase of wickedness the love of most will grow cold. Our society in general has given up on even saying what real love is. If a child can only be loved when the circumstances are all perfect, it’s not love.
In my work, a woman’s deepest darkest secrets surface. People would be amazed at how frequently the husband who raised the child and thought he was the birth father is not the real father.
Too bad we cannot love all children, no matter if they are our genetics or not.

Most men still have live ammo until they die. Women really need to have kids before 35 and really before 32 if they want to have a good chance. The odds start dropping considerably when they are older than that and that’s to say nothing of birth defects which rise considerably with a woman’s age at the time she gets pregnant.
