DETROIT (FOX 2) - A semi-truck hauling gravel crashed into an I-94 overpass and caused a massive backup Wednesday afternoon, westbound after Van Dyke in Detroit.
The truck slammed into the overpass, which is at 6450 Frontenac Ave. On a witness video taken from dashcam, it appeared the back hauler of the truck was tilted up, causing the collision.
The truck trailer was aluminum and the bridge is steel. Upon inspection, MDOT saw no visible damage to the bridge, according to Diane Cross, an MDOT spokesperson. Traffic is open over and under the bridge.
"Steel will always win that fight," Cross told FOX 2.
Frontenac Bridge was rebuilt in 2021.

How do you go down the road with the bed UP and not know it?....................
My first thought. But it Could also be DWI (driving while idiotic).
We had an idiot up here ten years ago who did the same thing. Took out a big chunk of the bridge.
There's a railroad overpass in Pensacola called 'Graffiti Bridge' that is very low. It gets hit at least every 6 months or so..........They put up signs but people don't read them.......
When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old immovable object like me
You can bet just as sure as you live
Somethin's gotta give, somethin's gotta give, somethin's gotta give …
Truck driver Sukhvinder Rai...............
Sucks to be Sukhvinder.....................
**How do you go down the road with the bed UP and not know it?....**
With old school controls just inside the driver’s door, if he was running around with the power-take-off (PTO) still engaged, all it needed was the up-down hydraulic flow valve lever moved by a seat belt catching on it.
Yup. Sucks to be around him on the road as well. Another plus for diversity!
You would think that the driver would look in the mirror once in awhile or at least think “why is this truck running like a dog right now?”
Bingo. How could that person driving the car next to it not see what was going to happen?
In my early work years I was a construction equipment operator as well as a truck driver. One gets used to the sounds and vibrations each unit makes and can easily tell when something is amiss.
Regarding going down the road with the box raised, the unit will handle differently as well as the sounds will be different - that’s clue #1. Periodic looking out the rear view mirrors would also catch it. The PTO will be engaged and made a noise all of its own.
I’ve followed big rigs with flat tires flopping around with blue smoke coming from them as they were about to catch fire. The drivers just keep on going.
That’s one fast way to resurface the road.
You mean they have to learn to read English now.
Driver not identified. Protected race and nationality?
Indian or Paki..
We have one in Boston on Storrow Drive….we now use it a a generic …..getting storrowed .
