Donald Trump's handpicked RNC chair tried to talk down MTG from Speaker vote!
My Inbox ^ | May 1 | Politico Playbook

Posted on 05/01/2024 9:54:27 AM PDT by RandFan

MICHAEL WHATLEY, the newly installed RNC co-chair, had already briefed Greene’s fellow House Republicans on the importance of party unity that morning, but Greene didn’t show. He delivered his pointed message to her personally: Don’t move against Johnson.

“He said, one, this is not helpful, and two, we want to expand and grow the majority in the House,” said a person familiar with Whatley’s message to Greene. “He was clear that any disruption to the conference on these efforts — including filing this [motion to vacate], does not help the case for party unity.”

In another era, a directive from the top Republican party official certainly would not go unheeded by a House back-bencher. Even in this era, you would think Whatley’s status as DONALD TRUMP’s handpicked RNC steward would mean something to a MAGA acolyte.

But Greene disagreed with Whatley, arguing that the party had time to rebound from a leadership switch before the election. And she admitted she’d spoken to Trump himself earlier in the day — leaving the impression that the former president had told her much the same as Whatley had.

The truth was, Greene had backed herself into a corner, and this morning, she’s facing a potential lose-lose situation: back down and look squishy or stand firm and risk a break with Trump.

At 9 a.m. she’s holding a news conference with fellow Johnson critic THOMAS MASSIE (R-Ky.), and her fellow Republicans are bracing for her to announce a vote on Johnson’s gavel as soon as this afternoon. If so, expect a quick vote to table.

Already her threats have taken a toll on her standing within the House Republican conference, where more and more lawmakers are growing tired of her self-aggrandizing antics, as our colleagues Jordain Carney and Olivia Beavers write.

They note, for instance, that Greene’s latest push comes as the GOP tries to take advantage of the campus unrest to make a messaging push on antisemitism. But, they write, instead of “going on the offense by attacking Democrats for insufficiently condemning pro-Palestinian protests on campuses, Republicans are now bracing for Greene to drag them into another internal fight that most of them would rather delay until after Election Day.”

The bigger issue is that Greene is defying not just her House colleagues, but also Trump and his hand-picked deputy, who made yesterday’s unusual face-to-face appeal.

Whatley told Playbook in a statement that “nothing is more important than party unity and ensuring that we are focused on beating JOE BIDEN and Democrats in November.”

Others in the Trump-aligned orbit are annoyed, to put it mildly, at Greene’s lack of political discipline. Some noted that she’d kept quiet in recent days until House Minority Leader HAKEEM JEFFRIES and other top Democrats made their backing of Johnson public yesterday morning — suggesting Greene got rope-a-doped into sparking another internecine fight.

“Fresh bait always finds a fish,” one senior GOP official told Playbook. “Jeffries throwing that out there, it’s chum in the water. Everyone knows what he did.”

The ONLY thing that MTG can succeed at doing, with a bare 5 vote GOP majority in the House, is again demonstrate how the Dims can exploit a divided GOP, especially with that mere 5 vote majority. MTG is making a “name” for herself, but she is only hurting the GOP.

The democrats never abolished the filibuster for Presidential appointments - until they did. When Reid unilaterally abolished the filibuster for district and appellate court judicial appointments, the only reason he didn’t abolish the filibuster for Supreme Court appointments was because there were no vacancies at the time.

From 2021 to 2023, lots of democrats called for the abolishment of legislative filibusters. The only reason they didn’t was because it bit them in the butt when Reid abolished the filibuster for Presidential appointments in 2013, Republicans retook the Senate a few months later and in 2016 Trump was elected and Republican controlled both houses of Congress.

Freepers are clueless on this and I sure don’t claim to understand the machinations up there but:

Trump praises MTG and claims she is ‘very respected in Congress’ Donald Trump praised Marjorie Taylor Greene during a rally in South Carolina on Friday (23 February), describing the controversial US Representative as a “good person”. “She has been with me for so long, in good times and bad,” the former president said. “If times are good, she will call me up twice. She is a fantastic person, a very smart person and very respected in Congress.” Mr Trump went on to claim that “a lot of people don’t know how respected” MTG is.

Some of those stooge judges were appointed by DJT. Or are they supposed to nullify the law and rule based on politics?

Judge Gregory wrote the opinion, in which Chief Judge Diaz, Judge King, Judge Wynn, Judge Thacker, Judge Harris, Judge Heytens, and Judge Benjamin joined.

Gee, I guess that Dubya stooge John Roberts was right that politics plays no part in the decisions of the federal kangaroo courts...

I know this decision warms the cockles of your Democrat Party operative heart, joes.

It is making the Republicans look like idiots, plus they are running out of viable candidates.

True. It also shows that they can't play the long game. It takes a lot of time and effort and patience to get anything done in politics. If you have to go back to the drawing board all the time, you never get anywhere.

How is your granddaughter doing? Well, I hope! I put a prayer up for her occasionally when I see your screen name scroll by.

It was like T-Ball.

I put it up there, and you delivered the weakest sauce imaginable: "Funny. I don’t agree with their decision.", when you could have gone Donny Donowitz on the partisan pieces of garbage.

I guess that when it comes to keeping the cash flow, discretion is the better part of valour.

Pres Trump is the presumptive nominee and therefore leader of the party.

That should be the only necessary answer.

If one needs reasons, I’m certain that they were covered in the replies before this reply.

This is already detrimental in detracting Whatley from more important work.

I address you people because you've gone out of your way illustrating why the Borg have you beaten. While we squable back and forth, trading slights, insults and points of view striving toward consensus they are zombies totally unified in their pursuit of power with no morality and, well, Buba_Leroy put it best on post #81: "Packing the Supreme Court with a few more far-left Democrat judges, making D.C. a state, making vote harvesting and no ID voting mandatory nationwide, making abortions legal up to the date of birth, giving trannies the right to use women's bathrooms and join women's sports, making it illegal to block children from being sterilized and having their reproductive organs amputated in the name of "gender affirming care."

Yes, a real horror movie we'd be forced to live in. Note how they've attained half of those travesties already. And the longer we remain arguing over details the more they're mowing us over. What do we have?

Mike Johnson presented himself as a warrior but when pressured by the strong he squished without even getting any concession for border control...AND giving billions of our dollars to Hamas terrorists. While this alone is failure enough to oust him I agree with those that say he must be retained until post-election. After that I hope he enjoys whatever post-Congress consultant/lobbyist/fake job package they're giving him. But he's got to go with the Scarlet Letter of constituant betrayal upon him after his role has expired.

Meanwhile we have to take these elections with the utmost seriousness because the Evil People are not constrained by morality, ethics, rules or fair play. The Democrats have allowed themselves to be infected by the furthest Left, patently insane branch of their party that strives to replace our vast bounty of God-given energy sources with a fairy tale of "renewables" (replete with non-recyclable waste and needless animal slaughter), our proven successful model of commerce with an "equity" (communist) system that's not only rained ruin wherever it arose but took multiple millions of lives along with it, and supplant what's left of our justice system with political operatives applying power for the advancement of their masters' agenda (hence President Trump's current dilemma).

The Democrat Party left God behind years ago and worship power for power's sake. It's no coincidence their largest lobby, the teachers' unions, annual conference now has drag queens, displays of pro-homosexuality books and seminars on how best to "nurture transgender children away from misunderstanding parents".

Our nation's once proud military is no longer fit to defend it, having weeded out it's patriots and independent thinkers through mandatory vaccine dictates and putting ridiculous "woke" ideology over common-sense combat readiness. It's no joke that Elon Musk, Richard Branson and others have caught up with and surpassed NASA - once the jewel of American achievement - because we've crippled it with over-regulation, budgetary waste compounded with favorable kick-backs and worst of all: the hiring of lesser qualified people over the best and brightest to assuage quotas for those who value skin color over competency.

I don't know about you but that seems very racist to me. Boys pretending to be girls ruining girls' sports, not knowing what you'll find in a public restroom anymore, weirdos expecting you to use their preferred pronouns...this is Last Days stuff and we ALL have to cooperate in order to fight against it. If we don't the Borg will eventually knock your door down and say "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile".

We've got to be BETTER than the demons across the aisle, going back to reasoned and rational compromises where both parties come out with something good to present to their constituents. This current all-or-nothing approach is clearly in favor of the soul-less Democrats and only benefits their financial backers and the "Deep State" while guys like Mike Johnson know their butts hurts a lot after dropping the soap.

Borgs</img

"Great NEA conference; LOVED the drag queens.
See you next year!"

What you fail to understand is that the Speaker is not a dictator. That’s the simple solution that appeals to simple minds, but it’s not the real world.
