One thing they got rid of was a uniform way to attach roof racks, Thule just loves selling a new $500 rack every time you get a new car and need their special attachment kit.

My first car had a choke. Often forgot to un-choke.

That little side window. Roll up windows.

Electric s*** and they all go bad eventually.

Foot operated dimmer switch. Also, the foot operated radio station changer. Also, the CD player. I love physically owning CDs.

The pointy knob on the steering wheel. I think that is what cost Sammy Davis Jr his eye.

I’d like it if a future list included seat belt retracters that don’t last the life of the vehicle.

I really want a car with a rotating license plate, an ejection seat, and machine guns in the front fenders.

Rumble/Suicide seat.

(Note: No empirical experience here, only historical stuff from antiquity.)

Dash mounted cassette dictation recorder, complete with handheld microphone. Optional on some Chryslers in the late ‘60s/early ‘70s...

We had a 67 Buick Riviera with the fold down headlights (made the coolest sound when operated), and an extremely annoying speed alarm. That car drank fuel, loved driving it.
So sad when dad traded it in for a Plymouth Scamp (he had a 4 hour commute each day).

Double-hinged rear doors on station wagons that pulled down or swung sideways.

In the 1960s, my family had the Ford Country Squire 6th generation with the "Magic Door" in the rear.

1. automatic seat belts
2. car mounted record players
3. Edsel tele-touch (button operated) transmission
4. fiberglass body
5. V 8-6-4 engine which could turn off cylinders
6. AMC Gremlin design
7. Nash All Weather Eye climate control
8. Corvair swing axle
9. Buick Riviera touch pad control
10. Fuego voice system
11. Yugo GV - the entire car
12. Plymouth Prowler - especially the mismatch between sports car looks and weak engine
13. Jaguar XK8 plastic timing belt tensioners

Interesting mix between bad ideas, design errors and features that were just a few years ahead of the technology supporting them.

Push button transmissions and parking brakes are common, touch screens are everywhere and combined HVAC systems are universal.

But everyone still hates the Gremlin and Yugo.
