In the performer category, this year’s inductees are Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest. ,p> Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield were selected as the recipients for the Musical Excellence Award.
The announcement was made Sunday during the “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night” episode on “American Idol.”
The inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were selected among nominees announced earlier this year, and have “created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll,” according to the organization.
Nominees this year included Sinéad O’Connor, Lenny Kravitz, Ozzy Osbourne and Mariah Carey.
To be eligible for nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

Is Dave Matthews the guy who sang a song about a brick?
Except Buffett.
"Two hundred years too late ..."
I hadn’t noticed Dionne Warwick on the list. She doesn’t suck, but isn’t rock and roll.
I’d say Buffet isn’t either and I’ll not state my opinion on him because I think it’s ok for anyone to like whatever they like.
Peter Frampton had some great songs
Mary J. Bilge?
Where is The group “Love”?
Gerry and the Pacemakers, Seekers, Gordon Lightfoot, Wibury Brothers, Tom Jones, Alvin Lee, Joe Cocker..Fifth Dimension, Monkees, Paul Revere & Raiders, all not in. IIRC...
How do we get him inducted? I want you to show me the way!
Didn’t Cher have a melt down on Kelly Clarkson, because she had not been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I believe she said she would not accept it now.
I agree. I freakin’ love “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?” But it’s not Rock and Roll. It was contemporary American music of its period in the ‘60s, but it’s no one’s idea of rock.
Wow that’s rough. Better now?
Don Brewer and Mark Farner can’t seem to “bury the hatchet” long enough for them to perform.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a corporation whose board gives awards to bands who pay them money. They also demand rights to the music that's performed at the induction ceremony.
The bands that aren't in are mostly either at odds with the owners of the rights to their music, or won't sign a bad deal with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Except Buffett.
“Two hundred years too late ...”
Yes, my FRiend.
Have a boat drink or three on me.
Actually, most of America really doesn’t give a damn
Yup...for a month after the surgery I was ready to kill the surgeon (very difficult recovery...I'm a huge coward). But after about a month I was ready to kiss his hand.
Don keeps wanting to bury the hatchet…. in Mark’s back..
Jimmy Buffett- .....rocker? Yeah- beach and sailboat bubble gum music. What a musical joke. Were it not for the few real songwriters he covered songs on he was and will always be a hitlery loving pothead (oh, and almost forgot at the same time DEA naro informant, the DEA owned all of his planes) marketer of crap. A rocker he is not. This is about money of course.
Cher? Maybe if they had a category for dance club music; but Rock? No.
The Supremes are in...Class of 1988.
