The buzz about entomophagy: Is eating insects more than a novelty?
Mew Atlas ^ | 9/30/14 | New Atlas

Jiminy Cricket may be able to do more than guide our consciences: he, or his kin, may also provide food security solutions for a growing and hungry world. However, the notion of insects-as-food struggles to find widespread traction amid problems with standardization of food safety standards, government disinterest and only a small body of research. So is there a future for cricket sushi or fried silk worms?

Have an Epipen available, if you haven’t been stung before and don’t know for sure if you’re allergic or not. I know a man who almost died of anaphylaxis, after accidentally attacking a wasp nest.

Agreed , I like grasshoppers in various forms tacos, deep fried with chili powder and garlic, chocolate covered too.

There are places in Austin were people line up and wait for grasshopper tacos and pay $5 each for them at that. At University my neighbors across the hall in the quad room were from Cameroon they had locusts that were deep fried and chili powder and garlic they tasted just like fried shrimp. In fact their word for them translated to desert shrimp. People get so worked up over the bug thing it’s doomer hype while I love some good tinfoil Qtardery and dystopian future madmax fantasy where anywhere on earth has a government forced bugs over other proteins where anywhere even Cuba the USSR or North Korea? Places like Thailand that eat bugs in the regular do so by choice go to a Thai market the number of different species of bugs for sale is amazing, you can get all kinds of proteins bush meat, bats, rodents you name it they have it why because someone is paying for it and it’s cheaper than pork or chicken by the Kg.

Now that some liberals have gone from hugging trees, to hating trees that cause “global warming” . . . a reminder of:

The Mohawk name for the Algonquin tribe was Adirondack - which means “bark-eaters”.

Bugs. Tree bark. On the winding road to serfdom.

The only rat I have ever eaten was nutria from the Louisiana swamp made quite edible by a redheaded Cajun queen it was closer to turtle in consistency and taste than squirrel or rabbit. We also had frogs we gigged and cough stipper er I mean alligator gar that we bowfished for. All were good eats. I love my coonass step family they helped raise me from a weee Texas buck.

Cuy is good as well although not a true rat it is in the rodent family the Peruvians get down on it.

One of my long term Xs was from West Virginia they ate squirrels aka tree rats as an art form. Raccoons too 20 gauge dogs shotguns and lots of white shine good times good times. Raccoon is dark meat like turtle but more gamey surprisingly.
