Who doesn’t love the 80s? Good music and even better hair styles. Maybe today’s kids will laugh and make fun of them but hey, back in the day, they were the bomb. They look pretty and colorful on stage, they know how to party and of course, they get the girls.
From heavy and glittering makeup to flashy clothing (leopard tights included), what completed the look was the large and wild hair. The more distinctive, the better. Well thanks to the alternative and grunge music of the early 90s, hair metal was eventually swept under the rug.
So let’s revisit some of the best this genre had to offer.

Sort of like the 60's - if you remember the 60's, you weren't really there. More likely you recently watched a documentary.
I jest but kisses first 3 albums up to Alive just kicked ass. Ace rules.
That’s mostly what I listen to like hard rock heaven internet radio
Do you remember the band UFO.? Very underrated.
I’d say Slade and Sweet started it. Just look how many of their songs got covered. It was big in England for almost a decade before it got traction here.
Cum On Feel the Noise was a Slade cover.
Gotta say, I don’t remember calling these bands “hair bands” in the 80s.
Maybe VH isn’t on the list because it’s not considered one?
What about Metallica?
Slade was so underrated.
I can’t watch 80s metal videos now without thinking how limp wristed and light-in-the-loafers a lot of these guys seemed, and it wasn’t just the big floofy hair. But we will never have music like that again, even though it was hard, just like 80s movies, a lot of the metal seems campy now too. Back then I never had gaydar at all, and I could be wrong about some of them, but even guys like Rob Halford or Fredie Mercury didn’t seem to be a thing.
“My #1 is Ratt. “ -DallasBiff
The only concert that ever left my ears ringing when I left was Ratt, and I’d been to ACDC (supposedly set the decibel records) and Metallica among others.
To me hair metal bands were more like “pop” metal, they would do the power ballads, and mostly do songs about girls and partying.
Bon Jovi???
F*** that!
Lights out was a favorite but they were earlier than the hair bands one of which does a cover for lights out
Dennis Leary said it best...
“Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead, and we can’t get Jon Bon Jovi in a helicopter? Come on, folks.....’Get in that helicopter, Jon, there’s a hairdresser in there.....yeah, yeah get in there.’”

They’re the greatest!
I loved Cheap Trick. Not a har band. Pop metal. But they just rocked.
My internet station doesn’t play any power ballads
Hard rock heaven
Phenomenon by UFO was such a killer album. Michael Shenker was incredible.

They’re a scream!
The ultimate garage band if\s Grand Funk. My favorite band of all time.
They were so good, they blew Zeppelin off the stage, and Peter Grant physically threatened their manager.
