according to new research from the University of Utah. Males' upper bodies are built for more powerful punches than females', says the study, published in the Journal of Experimental Biology...
For years, Carrier has been exploring the hypothesis that generations of interpersonal male-male aggression long in the past have shaped structures [as if there was no Designer] in human bodies to specialize for success in fighting...
It's already known that males' upper bodies, on average, have 75% more muscle mass and 90% more strength than females'. But it's not known why.
"The general approach to understanding why sexual dimorphism evolves," Morris says, "is to measure the actual differences in the muscles or the skeletons of males and females of a given species, and then look at the behaviors [not design] that might be driving those differences."
To test their hypothesis the researchers had to measure punching strength, but carefully....
To test their hypothesis the researchers had to measure punching strength,...even with roughly uniform levels of fitness, the males' average power during a punching motion was 162% greater than females', with the least-powerful man still stronger than the most powerful woman. Such a distinction between genders, Carrier says, develops with time and with purpose...
It's an uncomfortable thought to consider that men may be designed for fighting. That doesn't mean, however, that men today are destined to live their ancestor's violent lives...
The study was funded by the National Science Foundation and included additional co-authors Jenna Link and James C. Martin, both of the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology at the University of Utah.

Need updated prescription glasses...read headline twice and saw “MULES”. ;)
I’ve seen enough girl superhero movies to know this is wrong.
Well put
Anecdotally I have a mid 30’s female relative who trained in ballet into her mid teens, then yoga and was instructor for 10+ years, did CrossFit and not hardcore Pilates-she’s not big about5’5” and 120 but probably in the top 1% as far as strength by size -and has no illusions that she is super powerful or remotely capable of competing with even an older man of similar size, much less someone larger
The media and Hollywood delusions infesting people’s minds is eventually going to lead to some hard disappointments
I’m told a lot of police departments used to have height requirements for this very reason.
Me either but I always look at that boxer Butterbean as an example-guys wasn’t that talented and certainly not in good shape but just his sheer size allowed him to just wreck people in a hurry
Size does matter
But research means funding and "science" denotes veracity. Yet having some documentation helps in debate with those who claim there need be no functional differences btw male and female, besides those who claim to be the opposite of what they biologically are.
there are a few womenz in MMA though who hit like a mule- But most female MMA figthers are much weaker than male MMA fighters, and their4 fights are pretty boring- slap-fests mostly- but those few females who hit hard could knock many men out no problem they hit so hard, and their fights are worth watching if they are paired with another hard hitting female
Yes, even with the specter of imminent nuclear war, earlier was saner. Then came the feminist movement with actual women exalting "I am women" and denying any functional differences btwn male and female, to biological women claiming they are men, and transfemales athletes manifesting there are indeed functional differences.
That’s right.
No actual scientist has said there is any *proof* of the theory of evolution. It is very difficult to scientifically prove anything in the past.
Am I the only one that does this?
The one thing I can never get a women to understand is not only how naturally strong men are but how much punishment they can take and keep on going.
I have said explicitly for years that this is my stance on male vs. female. Together, in a well matched pair, each sex is stronger than it could be alone, and that is by divine intent.
It is for a reason.
That is why. Our naturally supplied, legal (so far) steroid call Testosterone.
Played by Nia Peeples: 5’2” & maybe 115 pounds during the series.
Yeah...there are weight classes in martial arts for a reason!
What is a male???????
Right, I got the actress wrong, thanks! I would see a fight and think “It looks like that would work but my brain says ‘no, it can’t!’”
There are differences? Who knew!!!
Female cops and soldiers must surely be the exception to the rule since we insist they take on males in combat and on the streets every day. Diversity kills.
