Famous “Law and Order” and “Charlotte” actress, Angie Harmon, said an Instacart delivery man shot and killed her dog.
Harmon wrote a lengthy post to her Instagram account Monday detailing the horror that allegedly happened at her front door. “This Easter weekend a man delivering groceries for Instacart shot & killed our precious Oliver,” she wrote. “He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog.” The actress posted a video and photographs of her small dog as she paid tribute to her beloved family pet.
Harmon went on to share more details with her 584,000 Instagram followers.
“Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded,” she said.
The actress explained that police were involved in the matter, but much to her dismay, they weren’t able to give her the closure she needed.
“The police let him go b/c he claimed ‘self defense’. He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn,” Harmon wrote.
The star said she was not expecting this particular person to be at her doorstep in the first place.
“He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle… the pic is on my story,” she said.
She followed up with some more disturbing information.
“He shot our dog with my daughters & myself at home & just kept saying, ‘yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.’ We are completely traumatized & beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved boy & family member. #RIP OLLIE 🐶🐾🕊️🌈” she wrote.
Harmon turned off the comments on her social media account.
There was no further information provided.
When you’re right, you’re right, and you’re right.
Thank you.
This is how I would expect any reasonable person to feel. Perhaps there is more information that we don't have which would shed better light on what happened, but until I am better informed, I think the shooter went too far.
I think the owner was also a fool, but the penalty for her foolishness should not be so severe as what has been visited upon her by someone who appears reckless to me.
I don't think anyone is disputing that he shot the dog. I think the question is whether or not he was justified in doing so. I haven't seen what I consider credible evidence that he was.
Maybe he was, I just haven't seen any proof that this dog represented such a threat that shooting it was a reasonable thing to do.
But thanks for proving that vicious dog ownership is about ego surrogacy.
I think what I showed is that some people make up their minds based on a dislike of a certain type of people, such as famous actresses, and I consider this to be a very different thing than looking at the facts without bias.
I don't care who Angie Harmon is, I would look at this case the same way if this wasn't some sort of famous person.
No.
I have witnessed people dying from a dog merely jumping on them.
No one invited onto private property is required to risk his life over the irresponsibility of the property owner.
Harmon can’t control what others do.
But she has control of her dog. She can and should have reduced the risk posed to her animal from a stranger.
Owning a dog is a responsibility.
Harmon clearly wasn’t up to it.
Dogs can kill, too, as we have seen on many threads here on FR.
Pretending they can’t is very disingenuous of you.
People like this guy delivering food while packing a pistol? Such feeble people should not be doing such a job.
No one invited onto private property is required to risk his life over the irresponsibility of the property owner.
Let us be serious.
Unless this guy laid down on the ground and allowed the dog to rip his throat out, it is highly unlikely that this dog represented any sort of "risk his life" scenario to this guy.
The worst he probably could have faced was several bites, *IF* the dog was prone to biting. Many dogs just bark and snarl.
Often with troublesome dogs, there is a record of past biting of people. Has any such information come out regarding this animal?
There is much about the story that raises legitimate questions.
Why was the dog out loose in the first place.
And it’s pretty suspicious that it just so happened that her Ring doorbell wasn’t operating at the time. I’m with the FReeper who thinks it was and she just doesn’t want to let someone see it because it would vindicate the guy.
Better to the the attention whore, victim and whine about the big bad delivery man, who she HAD to know was coming as she ordered something. Attention is DRUG TO SOME PEOPLE.
Knowing she had a delivery coming because she ordered something, she should have been aware of what was going on on her property, and should have kept her dog under control until he left. Course, even then her dog should ALWAYS be un der her control.
She’s capitalizing way too much on this incident. Something doesn’t fit.
Pit bulls. Rottweilers. German Shepards. Mastiffs. Large dangerous dogs can kill.
This was not a large dangerous dog. It was a mid sized dog that could not likely kill any sort of adult man.
Pretending they can’t is very disingenuous of you.
You attempting to substitute well known and well known to be dangerous types of dogs for this beagle whatever mix is very disingenuous of you.
If the man lay on the ground and allowed the dog to attack him in the throat, the dog could have killed him. Beyond that, the dog could likely do no more than bite him a few times.
Now I would say if the dog did in fact bite him, he is justified in shooting it, but I have yet to see any sufficient evidence that this dog was any sort of threat to him. All we have is his word.
I've seen plenty enough videos of cops shooting someone who was no threat to them, so I do not find it implausible that this guy did such a thing.
But perhaps we will see more evidence on this incident later.
I think that is a perfectly valid question.

I also suspect this is true.

I think you are projecting a specific perception onto her. I believe the woman can be legitimately distraught that someone shot her dog, and I too would regard it as use of excessive force and an over the top insane response.
She’s capitalizing way too much on this incident.
Some people are very attached to their pets. Some people literally call them "fur babies." They hold for them a love that most would only have for their actual children.
Have you never had a dog that you loved very much?
OK, I suggest you start by valuing the Life of a Human delivery person, gainfully employed in a legal, necessary and constructive occupation, over that of an illegally free running, uncontrolled, unsupervised, improperly trained, Dog.
I have witnessed a whole bunch of people packing a pistol while going about their legal, necessary and constructive occupation on private and public property, and never had any problem with any of 'em.
I have had problems with unemployed bums packing pistols and I know the difference. Dogs do not.
The idea that "Such feeble people should not be doing such a job." is absolute arrogance.
I have witnessed two fully able strong men die instantly, falling from a standing position on the ground where they were standing.
It is perfectly reasonable for an ordinary delivery man to consider a loose dog to be a threat to his life.
Agree.
“Unless this guy laid down on the ground and allowed the dog to rip his throat out, it is highly unlikely that this dog represented any sort of “risk his life” scenario to this guy.”
Really? The dog is large enough to bite someone in the balls. The dog is also large enough to bite and cut the femoral artery.
Harmon is not such a person, and Harmon knows for sure it just absolutely has to be someone else's fault.
It certainly CAN'T be hers.
That is a sign of mental illness.
IIRC, she’s right-leaning — at least used to be, and moved the family to rural NC some years ago to get the kids away from the Hollywood cesspool. Not sure where they live now.
The fall it's self can kill, or render the person temporarily incapable of defending themselves on the ground, where the Dog can now kill easily.
Thanks!
I loved my dog Thunder but I would have shot him to save my 2 girls. He’s a dog- they are my kids. some folks have to think about that for a minute, the dog or the kids.
Not furbaby, a dog-.
