In November 2021, Pastor Brooks began camping out on top of shipping containers at the construction site of the future Project H.O.O.D. community center in the Woodlawn neighborhood. He initially pledged to stay there for 100 days, but ended up extending his stay indefinitely.

During his 11-month rooftop campout, Pastor Brooks was able to raise over $20 million in donations towards the $30 million needed to build the 85,000-square-foot community center.

The center will include after-school programs, job training, a business incubator, a performing arts space, and other amenities for the Woodlawn community.

In October 2022, Pastor Brooks finally came down from the rooftop after reaching his fundraising goal, and he broke ground on the new Project H.O.O.D. community center.

The project received a major boost in February 2023 when the McCormick Foundation donated $8 million, the largest single gift to the project.
