It’s August 2017 and everyone is abuzz with news of the solar eclipse. Fast forward seven years and, once again, the moon’s path across the sun has everyone excited.
The Great American Eclipse is set for April 8. Almost all of the U.S. will get to experience the moon block out the sun but parts of 15 states - Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee – are along the path of totality, or the route of greatest darkness during the eclipse.

Saw a video predicting a big earthquake along the New Madrid fault line like 1812. That would shake things up.
There will be more than 3 minutes of totality at spots that are about a 4 hour drive from me so I plan to go up. But I’m wondering how to take photos and videos.

Odd. We are actually overdue for a Mag 8 earthquake offshore of Oregon-Washington-Vancouver in the Cascadia Subduction zone. Becoming due for their regular 530 year Mag 9.3 subduction zone earthquake.
I got some with my cell phone 7 years ago. Not very good though. I marveled at the crescent shadows of leaves, which I never found a satisfactory explanation for.
People talk about how crazy people get during a full moon. That is nothing compared to what they act like during an eclipse. About 10 years ago I was on duty during one and ended up donning a tin foil hat! They made me take it off on calls. )^;
Is eye damage an issue for viewing a non-total eclipse? Like 70-80%?
I’ve been wearing green every day , I bought some Golf shirts on Amazon different colors BUT they sent all GREEN ones , I did get a discount ,LOL
Of course the spots I'm considering are in northern Vermont and southern Quebec so I must recognize that it could be raining...or snowing...during the event.

I'm an amateur astronomer that specializes in solar observation. If you can see any of the sun's disk, even 1%, you need to wear approved (ISO certified) eclipse glasses or use a #14 welders glass. It's not just the visible light that gets you, it's the UV and IR. Don't risk your eyesight for the sake of saving $2.00 on a pair of glasses.
I'll be in northern Maine where the expected cloud cover is the worst of the entire path.
I’m in the path of totality (yay!!) and am very excited! And I’ll wear anything I damn well want. I’m thinking of going formal.

So, my paper 3-D glasses will be sufficient, right?
The intensity of the sun will melt the internals on your lens. They make filters.
We chased the 2017 eclipse. My daughter got some great photo’s with a homemade and very effective filter.
A friend in Cleveland has invited us to his house for the event so we’re making a long weekend out of it.
