My Sony flat screen TV is old and is rebooting at least once a day. And the pimps at Sony have overridden my "preferences" to hawk their "woke" alerts and advertisements. All this on the home screen.
Since I'm going to upgrade anyway, is there a brand that doesn't pimp the Psuedo Cause du jour when it fires up?
THANKS!
I keep my eye out for the old crt tv’s that folks put outside their homes with “free” sign on them. Have been using one for 3 years now and have another as backup incase the one we use goes down. Yep, it’s heavy as a drunken elephant, but it’s free, works very well, and meets our modest wants. We aren’t interested in c9nnecting our TV to streaming services- but with the price of cable, 8 might just have to keep an eye out for flat screen tvs on people’s lawns with free signs on them and make sure they aren’t “smart tv’s”-
We bought a Vizio last month. It’s a “smart” tv, unfortunately. I did not link it to any router even though they all show up. The tv tries to connect and upload our data, but I don’t think it’s successful. The thing is...we did not look for a “smart” tv, but couldn’t find a “dumb” tv in our market. So much for giving the public what they want. Most of the time, the tv is unplugged.

A d that seems to be the plan... planned obsolescence- to force upgrades. Companies and providers working in tandem with manufacturers to ensure that older stuff won’t work - forcing upgrades.
I had an old chainsaw with no anti-kick, and was working on f8nishing a tractor trailer load of firewood- I was tired, and didn’t wa5ch my footing and slipped, and fell forward a bit- the chainsaw tip caught the end of a log, and it kicked up into my face- cut a nice gash through my eyebrow, hit my chin, and somehow cut under my nose- came very close to losing an eye.
I was “too macho” (ie too dumb) to wear safety gear. Result? Scarred up face.
The homeowner I was working for threatened to dock me for the down time. We laughed about it, and then I bit his ear off. J/k
Seriously though, wear at least a helmet with faceguard-
>It developed a “shadow” about the size of a basketball right in the center of the screen.
I also have a Samsung 65” of the same vintage, it has a white spot lower center. Tolerable for now. Evidently there are diffuser lenses for the backlight which loosen over time.

I’ve always worn at least hardhat, safety glasses and chaps, if not a face shield. When I started using saws in the 70s, I didn’t believe in hearing protection, but got serious about that when I noticed some hearing loss. Too bad it’ll never come back, but my own fault.
Sorry to hear about your accident. In many, many hours of sawing (including several seasons on a USFS hotshot crew), I have been fortunate enough not to get cut. Knew several guys (and one woman) who had impressive zippers on their arms and legs from a moment of carelessness.
“What sound system are you using with your unit?”
I’m using the Samsung 3.1Ch 400W Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer. Does the job. Would like to look at the Bose system.
“The new 8k units are nowhere as good, as they were rushed out too fast.”
I thought 4k was the highest definition we have now in the U.S. I’m referring to the signal, not the receiver.

I have a big-screen TV, but I rarely use it, I do most of my watching on my laptop.
Yeah, my brother who,was a logger told me I should wear chaps too, but I always resisted, like a dummy.
When i first started cutting firewood, I did a lot of wood cutting in the woods too, and felling trees, sometimes the tree would buckle, or get pinched- and ive have had a few close calls where as soon as you hit the fallen tree with the saw, it “explodes” (releases all the energy from being under pressure), and have had the saw shoot up over my head- that is a scary deal when you aren’t expecting it. Sometimes I would cut through a tree that was on top of another smaller tree which got twisted, and would hit that with the saw and it would snap out and smack me in the chins or arm.
Such a dangerous profession or pastime. But with precautions, it can be made safer. Just gotta keep yourself aware all the time as you know. Accidents happen so fast that you don’t realize they happened until the pain starts almost.
I didn’t use hearing protection either, and now suffer tinnitus- but partly because I listened to really loud rock- again, like a dummy I shunned hearing protection.
God must have had to work overtime saving me from myself. I was in too much of a rush to stop and consider the consequences of things. Typical teenager who doesn’t think about such things I guess, but my teen year “bravado” (ie lunacy) went well into my 30’s
Both my brothers logged in Oregon and Alaska and saw a few horrifying accidents. I could tell about my own falling and bucking close calls for hours, if anyone would stay awake that long. I got better at reading trees and even walking away from some, but there’s always something.
I also lost too much hearing from loud music, and shooting, and drill rigs, etc. I’ve had some degree of tinnitus as long as I can remember, but I can still hear small sounds if it’s generally quiet. Don’t really want hearing aids, because then I might be able to hear what people are saying about me.
I know what you mean about getting away with a lot of stupidity in one’s younger years. I probably shouldn’t have reached 30, but I guess the Fool-killer wasn’t paying attention.
“ I’m holding out for the Samsung 11,088,000”.
That’s 175 miles.”
It could double as a border wall.
Sounds like a nice set-up. I looked at Bose, and it was very pricey, so I opted for the Polk Audio to get started. I’ll upgrade if I get another 82”-PLUS to replace the one I have.
“for 175” TV, if it has the usual 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution, each pixel would be a little less than the size of a football field.”
A lot less! About 0.04 inches.
