I thought 4k was the highest definition we have now in the U.S. I’m referring to the signal, not the receiver.

Most is 720 or 1080i but looks great upscaled to 4k. There is some 8k videos on the internet and now smart phone cameras can vidio 8k.
Most of the TV 4k, like Netflix, is degraded 4k and not much better than upscaled 1080.
