People Abandoned Disney Over Terrible Storytelling, Not Primarily Politics

IF they can tell good stories with only a mild sprinkling of leftism...which Hollywood has been doing for decades...they would do okay.

They ignore the fact that when they tell good stories with traditional values, they inevitably have a smash hit. Peter Jackson did NOT want to follow Tolkien closely in his Lord of the Rings trilogy, but felt it was the best way to go commercially - and it was.

Spengler and Donner had to fight to make Superman “all American” in 1978! “Truth, justice and the American way” were almost cut from the script as too hokey.

The left is now too ingrained in Disney. I fear the Mouse is past the point of no return. You would have to fire over 80% of the current employees to purge the woke.

Not only do the Wokeratti insist on injecting their politics into everything, but these people are also not smart, not talented and not creative. They might get away with some of their ridiculous politics being in their movies IF they had good stories to tell.

They don't.

Name for me a good new franchise they've developed. You can't. They're just living off of the past.....of past people's talent and creativity. Their idea of being "creative" is: "I know!" Let's take a story that's been told before and replace a normal White male character with a disabled, transgender, vegetarian, communist of color! That will be so fresh!"

Then they get mad when nobody wants to watch that crap and it flops.

Many Disney/Sony movies will fail for a reason Iger just reinforced. They are not “limiting themselves to the source material”. So instead of making a movie with tens of millions of expectant customers, the comic book readers and their families, they go for a nebulous audience whose interests doesn’t involve comic book characters. Disney’s leadership now is looking like the board of directors of Wayne Enterprises in Gotham, supporting evil while squandering the base company assets. Next will be the collapse of the theme parks.

"Regressive gender stereotypes" comes from civilization's tendency to put men in harm's way, going back to Beowulf and the Greek, Roman, and Norse mythologies.

For those too dense to see the politics turning the product into crap I have one question: why would anyone take a little boy to a Disney movie anymore? What he'll learn is that only Disney Princesses matter, that the entire world is crafted to exalt their self-actualization and their acquisition of power, and that unless the boys gain legitimacy by being oppressed themselves, i.e. by sexual deviation, they simply take the back seat on the Disney bus if they're even allowed aboard. Would Davey Crockett be made today? Tom Sawyer?

A prominent YooToober made this point last night: these movies aren't being made for any audience except the clique behind the writing and directing; that the old Steely Dan line "Show biz kids making movies of themselves, you know they don't give a **** about anybody else" has become written in stone in Hollywood. When they say "We're reimagining this for a modern audience" they mean only themselves. Narcissism in Hollywood, who'd have ever suspected?

I would say that the great actresses of yesterday were great story tellers; acting after all is telling a story and making the audience believe.

I believed Ingrid Berman’s character in Casal Blanca was torn between Humphrey Bogart and Paul Heinreid, I believed that Jeanette MacDonald loved Nelson Eddy, I believed that Vivein Leigh was a superficial and beautiful young flirt with hidden depths in Gone with the Wind.

I could go on and on, Barbara Stanwick, Ginger Rogers, Katherine Hepburn . . . you are being quite unfair to women.

I liked the first Wonder Woman movie. I thought it was the best of the DC comics movies. It had a good story. I hated the second Wonder Woman movie. I thought the story was a piece of crap.

What a simply desperate, asinine statement for this ("courageously" unnamed) executive to make. Both Tangled and Frozen were "female empowerment" movies, both were hugely successful, and I enjoyed each tremendously. But then again, they weren't remakes of some beloved classic re-done solely for the sake of casting the "correct" type of characters this time, nor new stories designed to lecture us unwashed masses on how intolerant we are.

If this is the attitude of Disney leadership (and I know it is), they deserve to be circling the drain.

On the heels of Florida’s new Parental Rights in Education law, which bars educators from instructing kindergarten through third-grade students about sexual ideology, multiple executives and employees from the Walt Disney Company admitted their own personal missions to deluge 5- to 9-year-olds with as much of their own sexual ideology as possible.

One Disney executive boasted about her “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” and efforts at “adding queerness to” children’s programming, in leaked audio published by investigative journalist Chris Rufo on Tuesday.

“Our leadership over there has been so welcoming to my, like, not-at-all-secret gay agenda,” said Latoya Raveneau, an executive producer for Disney Television Animation. “I was just, wherever I could, just basically adding queerness … No one would stop me and no one was trying to stop me.”
