SANTA FE, N.M. (NewsNation) — Jury selection is set to begin Wednesday for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Western movie “Rust” who is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
This trial marks one of the most significant legal proceedings in Hollywood’s extensive film industry.
Gutierrez-Reed has pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintains she’s not directly to blame for Hutchins’ death. Baldwin also has pleaded not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in a separate case.
In October 2021, Baldwin was rehearsing a scene that involved drawing a weapon and pointing it toward the camera when a single round went through Hutchins, fatally wounding her. Director Joul Souza was injured in the shoulder.
Baldwin claimed the gun discharged when he took it out of the holster and denied firing it, while an FBI report stated it could only have fired if the trigger had been pulled.
Prosecutors claim Gutierrez-Reed loaded the .45-caliber revolver involved in the shooting and brought at least six live rounds onto the set. Additionally, the prosecution alleges the armorer drank alcohol, smoked marijuana and used cocaine during filming — sometimes even on set. Gutierrez-Reed allegedly attempted to conceal the drugs by passing them to a friend before investigators could find them.

NOPE......TRY AGAIN
any one of us would have been in jail a year ago...
oh,, the lies that liars lie about !
oh,, the lies that liars lie about !
only one person was holding the gun when it fired. SOMEBODY ignored the cardinal rule of any weapon and SOMEBODY else got dead because of it. remember friends...”a gun is only dangerous when the wrong nut is connected to the trigger” L.Star
This trial is for the ARMORER. Not Baldwin.
The ARMORER is responsible for the care and loading of the weapon. The armorer loaded the gun with live ammunition. Not Baldwin. He only pulled the trigger.
As much as we all HAT Alec Baldwin because of his past actions, he is somewhat of a victim here(as the actor who fired the weapon). NOT as the producer of the movie. He is guilty for that. His trial comes after this.
Consider yourself as an ACTOR in Baldwin’s position. He is on set, the director calls for everyone to take their places. He is handed a weapon, which he assumes is filled with blanks by the ARMORER. The director calls for action, the ACTOR points the gun in the direction of the camera and pulls the trigger. He sees the woman standing next to the camera getting shot.
This is when the lying starts because Baldwin as the producer KNOWS that he is LIBEL for everything taking place on his movie set. He is screwed. So, he comes up with a story that he did not pull the trigger. When everyone knows that is impossible.
Verdict: Second Degree Manslaughter for the Armorer. 2-4 years in a minimum security NM prison.
She will then testify AGAINST Baldwin in both his criminal trial AND the CIVIL trial that will potentially BANKRUPT him .
She is an admitted stoner, partying the night before, I guess when “anything goes” with these Hollywood types, anything can happen, it it might not be good.
“The director calls for action,”
They were just setting up for the scene and Baldwin was practicing his draw.
They hadn't called action yet. The cinematographer was still framing the shot and Baldwin was practicing his fast draw when the gun went off.

Thanks for the clarification. It still does not change the fact that Baldwin did not load the weapon. There is no reason to believe he purposely shot the girl.
Again, this trial is for the ARMORER. NOT the Actor and Producer Baldwin.
However, any evidence brought forth in this trial WILL be used against Baldwins eventual trials.
“It still does not change the fact that Baldwin did not load the weapon.”
He still violated basic gun safety AND film set rules.
He didn’t check the loading, pointed the gun at a person and pulled the trigger. When I hand a gun to another I show them it is empty. That also gives me peace of mind.
“There is no reason to believe he purposely shot the girl.”
Agreed
“Additionally, the prosecution alleges the armorer drank alcohol, smoked marijuana and used cocaine during filming — sometimes even on set.”
If they can prove that she’s gonna be gone for quite a while.
“any evidence brought forth in this trial WILL be used against Baldwins eventual trials”
That’s actually a two way strif you think about it.
Baldwins lawyers get to see in advance what the prosecution is going to do and will have the opportunity to prep accordingly.
They did not did any tests, so she's off the hook on being intoxicated.
Two way street
I read some civil complaints which painted a pretty ugly picture of the production and safety standards. Granted it was all plaintiff accusations but multiple complaints all made similar accusations.
If provable my take is the armorer was criminally negligent (she knew there was live ammo on set, and that the pistol was being used for recreational target practice) and that Baldwin should be civilly liable at the end. I would think that his personal actions were malicious (lies and cover-up) and would allow corporate protections of his production company to be breached to reach his personal assets.
Baldwin is sticking with the narrative that the gun went off but he didn’t pull the trigger......that dog won’t hunt.
The crew was using the gun for “plinking”. Though 45LC ammo is kind of expensive for plinking. The pistol should have been locked up and no live ammo allowed on site, period. There is incompetence all around this mess.
“The crew was using the gun for “plinking”
There was NO reason to have live ammo or a weapon that would fire it within a mile of that set.......why?......because of exactly what happened.
As far as incompetence all around this mess I agree whole heartedly.
Fact?
Alec Baldwin claims he didn't load the weapon but that's for the jury to decide.
