As Detroit-style pizza gains popularity across the country hardened New Yorkers are balking at the incursion on their thin-crusted foldable slices – even as one local pie-slinger told The Post the thick-crusted Detroit style is “very trendy right now” even in the Big Apple.
“Who was a part of that? Not real New Yorkers!” Brooklynite Roberto, 36, said of declaring Detroit-style new king. “Who wants to bite down on a pile of dough? No way,” he railed The Post outside of New York style standby Grimaldi’s.

New York style is too floppy and not all that.
NYC is self imploding, a wall will keep them in and Snake Plissken will be sent in as their Viceroy to keep them in check.
C’mon, people raised in Detroit will probably favor Detroit style and people raised in NY will favor NY style.
Best pizza in the world came from South Ferry, back in 1970.
Will never visit either cesspool to try them.
The only New York style I like is with cheese only. Otherwise, I like Detroit style better.
I’m a southerner. I love NY style. We have lots of NY Pizzarias her in Myrtle Beach. I love NY style pizza. It’s a matter of taste.
A few years ago, when I mentioned Detroit pizza here, some misinformed misanthrope here told me there’s no such thing as Detroit Pizza. To him I say:
Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah.
I hadn’t even heard of detroit style pizza until about a year ago. Was I living in a cave or was it just not ‘promoted’ until then?
Part of the flavor is the spray paint cooking off the side of the drum.
It is just "trendy" now.
It’s a stupid marketing gimmick. Kinda like “Detroit against the World”
during the Lions playoff run. Again. Something for the kiddies, and the simple minded.
That being said if you want to talk about pizza from Detroit. Buddy’s Pizza. Hands down.
Heading there in two weeks. First stop for dinner. The Antipasto is pretty good also.

Some of the best pizza I had was from Pontillos - in Rochester NY and in Lincoln NE. Why they chose those 2 locations i’ll never know.
Detroit-style pizza is too doughy.
