Of course, a few years later the Dims are punishing us for using nat gas.

Yup. Toyota was the Toast of the Town when they had a hit with the Prius. Now, hybrids are not good enough and Toyota is slammed for not keeping up with the times.

Back in the '70s, United Illuminating electric utility in Connecticut was told to switch from coal to oil for pollution reasons. When the oil embargo hit they were told to go back to coal. UI's response was, "pick one, and stick with it."

Well then whatever you do, don’t pay Musk for exceeding his contractual performance.

You’re way ahead on the curve on energy self-reliance. And you’ve shown that your moves have been prudent.

Next week we’re moving into a modern apartment in the my city of Japan. We live in a 20 year old building now — earthquake proof, but a little too cramped.

The new place has some interesting electric changes which I hope to share once I get all the facts straight.

I’d love to hear about the electric changes. Of course, that’ll be for an apartment. Much of that might not be compatible to owning a house, which is often a requirement for having solar (I guess it’s possible to install solar if you own a condo, but not very efficiently IMHO.) But the other things for energy efficiency in a living space might be transferrable to a house.

That’s true — if you wanted to virtual signal back in the 2000s, you made sure you were seen driving a Prius. In fact they were nicknamed the Toyota Pious. But that’s not good enough now. Which is too bad since Toyota has pretty much perfected the hybrid technology and the early Priuses have proven to be extremely reliable, practical vehicles.

And hybrids made it possible for Toyota to sell more RAV4s, Sequoias, and Avalons (which my wife drives).

When a true technology breakthrough comes along, you do not need government incentives. In the '90s the government energy requirements recommended for electronics extended to Computer CRT monitors, which were good for well over 100W. LED technology came in, was too expensive and small at first, but within 15 years took over completely without a noticeable government intervention.

Another “Recall” fixed by an over the air update. When other car companies have recall you have to take the car into the dealer. Big difference.

FORD is LOSING $36,000 on every EV truck.

I have done accounting for over 66 years.

I do NOT see a future for that business plan.

I do NOT see a future for that business plan.

If the losses are due to large capital expenditures, and the price of production goes down over time, it can work then. I have no idea if those costs will go down, but it is not inconceivable.
