Yup. Toyota was the Toast of the Town when they had a hit with the Prius. Now, hybrids are not good enough and Toyota is slammed for not keeping up with the times.
Back in the '70s, United Illuminating electric utility in Connecticut was told to switch from coal to oil for pollution reasons. When the oil embargo hit they were told to go back to coal. UI's response was, "pick one, and stick with it."

That’s true — if you wanted to virtual signal back in the 2000s, you made sure you were seen driving a Prius. In fact they were nicknamed the Toyota Pious. But that’s not good enough now. Which is too bad since Toyota has pretty much perfected the hybrid technology and the early Priuses have proven to be extremely reliable, practical vehicles.
