The world's largest cruise ship has begun its seven-day maiden voyage from Port Miami - carrying nearly the population of a small city onboard.

The Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas set sail today on a seven-day island-hopping voyage in the Caribbean before returning to Miami.

The $2 billion ship runs nearly 1,200 feet (365 meters) from bow to stern and has 20 decks, 2,350 crew, 2,805 staterooms along with room for 7,600 passengers.

World’s largest and ugliest petri dish.

What’s the carbon footprint?

So, 8,000 people total. Still, they ain’t all going to be in lifeboats if that ship ever goes down.

Future headline: "Obesity Epidemic Noted Among Caribbean Shark Population"

12 cruises under my belt. Never sick.

I’d worry less about norovirus than I would rogue waves, issues with the sanitation system, i.e., toilets.

I suggest that the moderator change the headline to: “Luddite Cruise Haters Abound On Free Republic”

I LOVE cruising . . . there, it’s in the open.

When the early period subsides, I’ll be looking to book this cruise at the normal price levels that will occur after the deep pockets have had their fill.

I watched the coverage of the sail away on the YouTube channel that covers the Miami Port and loved how it looked.

As for the ‘get off my lawn HOA types’ here, make sure to update yur AOL accounts . . . LOL

A viking river cruise was truly relaxing. 190 passengers, no crowding, everyone eats at the same time. And no kids! Enjoyed every minute of our 14 day trip Amsterdam to Budapest. I was on navy aircraft carriers (2) and the 5k crew was quite enough for me.

We did the same cruise in May 2019, but in reverse. Did the 2 pre-days in Budapest and the 2-post days in Amsterdam. Then took the high-speed train to Paris for a week, and then the Chunnel train to London for a week.

Trip of a lifetime!

“””I cruised on the Norway in 1992, the last cruise ship that actually looked like an ocean liner. It’s now scrap”””

The SS Norway was built as the SS France in about 1960. Norwegian Cruise Lines acquired it and renamed it the SS Norway.

I sailed on the SS Norway in about 2003 and not many months later the steam boilers blew up while it was sitting at the Miami docks and that was the end of this fabulous ship.

It’s a floating 15-minute city. No thanks.

I’ve been on one, but we got the (non alcoholic) drink package and prepaid tip/gratuity. Prepaid for one excursion so all we $$ spent on cruise was for whatever we bought in ports.

I’d go on this cruise ship if someone paid for it.

I have been on a cruise that had about 4,000 passengers.

I can’t imagine, nor want to experience, one with nearly twice as many passengers.

The other thing is, if you just look at how the crew is 1/3 or more in size in relation to the passengers, because those ships are like giant floating cities. I was amazed at how efficient everything actually worked, but then I also noticed the size of the ships labor force was also very high.

“There’s not enough lounge chairs around the pools for even 1/3 of the people on board.”

This one appears to have enough lounge chairs for about 3 cabins’ worth.
