The NFL playoffs start this coming weekend and there’s one thing fans of all teams can agree on—it stinks that the NFL and NBC will be airing an AFC playoff game exclusively on Peacock.
That’s right, if you want to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the Miami Dolphins, you’ll have to subscribe to Peacock to see the game.
The NFL has been getting into the streaming business the past few years, but this is the first time fans will have to pay extra to see a playoff game. And there’s a reason for that—money.
Here’s how much NBC is paying for this game:

Ari Meirov @MySportsUpdate · Follow Peacock is paying in the range of $110M to exclusively carry a playoff game. The game they are getting is a Chiefs / Patrick Mahomes game.
FWIW: My comment section is not happy. Ari Meirov @MySportsUpdate FULL WILD CARD SCHEDULE:

I fully expect that AFTER the game is over, it will be re-broadcast on the NFL Network (212 on DirecTV) later that night. If it was a blowout, only the winner’s fans will watch. If it was a nailbiter, everybody will be pissed they didn’t get to watch it live..........................
(At least I won’t have to see Taylor Swift.)
Nor Travis Swift 😜
Nor their ads for jab
Classic Vinyl +1
That’s probably a scam. I’ve gotten realistic looking e-mails and if you look closely, you’ll see that it’s not linking back to NBC.
One of the best things I ever did was break the habit of watching sports.
Frees up so much time.
The leagues don’t care about the fans, so why support them?
Cheers.
If you are forced to watch their hideous commercials it ain’t “free.”
I cut the Comcast/Xfinity cable TV two Mays ago.
I have a ROKU TV and stream everything now.
During NFL season I pay for Peacock and Paramount+ because I want to see Pats and Bills games. At the end of the season I will cancel them again until next Sept.
FYI, YouTube has a 10-15 replay of every NFL game on usually within a couple hours of the end of the game. They show every major play that effects the game. I watch those all the time.
They’re pushing streaming. This is a way of introducing more people to the world of streaming services.
A certain number of people will sign up for peacock to watch this game, and then go through the menu and see what other programming is available on that channel.
I don't watch the clips chronologically either.
The shows "Yellowstone" and "Better Call Saul" are good examples of this. Just by watching the clips, I have a good understanding of the major characters and the plotlines. I have not seen every minute of those shows but I know enough about them to keep up with the "water cooler" talk!
“How is this different from a local game getting blacked out?”
—
I think the key word there is “local” game.
MLB does this too, with Apple TV+ being required for certain Friday night games. On top of already blacking out local team games. It’s dumb.

Honestly, this is probably the game to skip, as the chiefs will likely crush the dolphins by 30 points
How long before Super Bowl is on PPV?
Thank you!
One of the attractions of the Super Bowl used to be the ads.
But now, since ads are so woke, nobody really is interested in them anymore, so yes, I think the SB going PPV is inevitable.
I vote for a permanent player’s strike. NFL NBA NASCAR NHL etc. not gonna waste any time on that garbage. Get out and do something. Get off your ass and do something people.
NBC is literally Communist, so I am happy to be a free rider with streaming sites
I watched the first couple seasons of Better Call Saul, but lost interest after that.
Yellowstone has had some episodes that were great and others that were 75% fluff. A lot of hunky men and smoke show women riding horseys. I have watched all the episodes though.
I subscribe to a couple dozen different podcasts/channels on YouTube. Tucker, Sean Ryan, PBD Podcast, Peter Zeihan, RJ Talks, a couple channels about people rebuilding old houses in Italy, etc
We’re not paying diddly-squat to watch a game. We’ll record it off a free channel airing at 0100 and watch it after we get back from church.
