Nick Saban’s retiring as the University of Alabama football coach, ESPN reported Wednesday afternoon, turning a long inevitability into a stark reality and sending shockwaves throughout the college football world.
It ends arguably the greatest run in college football history where the once famously-nomadic Saban finally planted roots and rebuilt a decaying empire.
By reviving a struggling Crimson Tide program — winning 80.6% of his games and seven national titles — Saban placed his name among the all-time greats. That includes Paul “Bear” Bryant, the Alabama coach from six whose national title mark Saban passed in 2020.

Can't argue with that.
I give the conferences another 5 years tops, before they go the way of the Dodo bird.
Yes, that’s more or less what I think. How is NCAA football served by having two conferences?
What about Mike “It’s rollin’ baby, it’s rollin’” Price?
OK...I see what you’re saying...It remains to be seen if it hurts things...I hope not....
Indeed
I would add General Robert Neyland to that list....
That’s funny. I worked for Auburn University for 20 years.
And here comes Bill Belichick.
May I toss in my own opinion?
The SEC has grown from 10 core teams to 16 teams next year.
I think that dilutes the talent and dilutes the passion.
It also means that some SEC teams will have a less demanding schedule than others.
Plus, the National Playoffs expand next year - eight teams, I think - which will further dilute the talent and the passion.
More games, more injuries, more top players staying away from bowl games to protect their future professional careers.
Seventeen years and an incredible record!
I remember when the alum almost vetoed his $4 million first-year price tag in 2007.
Nothing lasts forever.
Well done, coach.
Take a note from Tuberville, who is a former Auburn coach and now a star in the Senate. Kick it up a notch and toss your hat in the ring for Pres! :-). You would sure get my vote and would stand head and shoulders above the current crop of losers.
Saban and Belichik are really good friends..................hmmmmm..................
Isn’t he a Manchin Democrat?
Going out a loser.:)
Nick Satan bought a beach house in Florida and will retire in peace.
He had a good run and was headed downhill fast.
plus, he already has 8 rings, and to try to get 2 more, the thumbs are hard to wear rings on. It was time!
Yeah, he only made it to the National Semifinal.
I see what you’re saying and mostly agree...
I wish they would eliminate about half of these worthless bowl games they have now...It was so much better when there were only 8-10 bowl games...
When was that 1910? In the 80s and 90s they had just as many bowls, if not more, than they do today. They need to get rid of the stupid playoffs and go back to real bowl games.
Is that right? Will there be no more SEC Title game?
I've always had a problem with the title game in that it guarantees one of your best teams to have a late-season loss.
