"Free thought" is a philosophical viewpoint which holds that positions regarding truth should be formed on the basis of logic, reason, and empiricism, rather than authority, tradition, revelation, or dogma.

I agree. It bugs me that most of the used cars now think keyless entry and keyless start are selling points. I keep it in the back of my mind that if I bought a car what would it cost to take it to a mechanic and have the blackbox/GPS equipment removed. That is becoming difficult too. Many of today’s mechanics are trained in how to read computer diagnostic reports in order to repair cars.
I am with you about PDJT. FJB signed an EO requiring kill switches on new cars starting in 2026, so one hopes PDJT reverses all this crap and lets the market decide not DC.

I’ve read where many are doing that. Given how outrageous dealer fees are in Florida some people look into buying cars out of state and either pick them up or have them shipped to them, saving themselves over $ 1,000 in dealer fees alone.
I have a mobile mechanic that will inspect the car, produce a report on car and tell me what they believe the car price should be.
Taking that data I don’t negotiate with the salesman I say this is my out the door offer. If they don’t accept or try to ‘discuss’ it. I up and leave. Plus I go to the car seller with my financing already lined up. I right now want to pay cash whereas many dealers latest trick is using financing to hook you for more fees.

My dad has a 1990 GMC Suburban. It’s a tank on the road, especially given that all my previous cars have been Hondas or Nissans, but given today’s regulatory environment I keep offering to buy it from him but no luck so far. LOL It still runs well and is a great workhorse auto.

Our Condo was built in 1972. The air conditioner installed then has R12 in it. I don’t believe it was serviced before we bought the place. We’ve never had it serviced in 30 years of ownership. You could house penguins in our place if it’s running on high. The place 51 years old. IF Refrigerant was/is a significant ozone hazard as long as you are mindful of the servicing and end of life disposal ITS NOT AN ISSUE STILL!
Additionally, the “efficiency” of units is always bantered about like it’s the ecological holy grail. Sorry eco-fools, if you have a unit that electric consumption wise is half as efficient as a modern production, but you have to mine, refine, fabricate and manufacture the modern unit 5+ times over the lifespan of a less efficient unit, the less efficient unit IS MORE ECOLOGICALLY SOUND!
I have small engines that still run from up to nearly 100 years ago. Their design INCLUDED parts and materials for multiple easy rebuilds and overhauls. If taken care of by competent users, they essentially can remain serviceable on a multigenerational scale.
If you optimized the current designs of small engines they could provide similar robustness.
The “disposability” of societies amenaties is something that MUST be extracted out of the economic equation. Manufacturers MUST get back to creating equipment and appliances that last a lifetime of more. Therein lies the “solution” to resources and the environments “issues”...
