The Great Boomer Bottleneck
Business Insider ^ | 3/1/23 | Alex Yablon

Parents: Is there anything we can't blame on them? They bear the responsibility for our neuroses, the less flattering aspects of our appearance, and, now, the worst inflationary crisis since the 1970s.

The story of our inflation headache is one of scarcity: not enough people, homes, or ships. But while the arguments about post-COVID price chaos have focused overwhelmingly on short-term, pandemic-created triggers — such as closed factories and government rescue spending — inflation is also a story of larger tectonic shifts within the population.

Every generation blames the one before them.

Except now there’s a nice little bigoted label (boomers!) they can slap on for immediate validation from their respective echo chambers.

Big demographic shifts are always difficult to deal with. But they are never surprising. You can see them coming for decades.

If the US had had actual political leadership for the past 30 years or so, maybe we could have made some gradual shifts to get ready for massive retirements, and a smaller cohort of workers in their prime. Change is inevitable. Leaders manage change. We haven’t had any decent leaders for a long time.

As every Generation Xer like me knows. Boomers are full of it. Lazy, entitled, and not very smart.

(Just stirring the pot :) )

Obamacare will ensure boomers are euthanized before they become too much of a burden.

But the article has merit.

As a mid Gen X er, we were told from grade school on
1. Our standard of living was going to decline because of demographics. The Boomer generation came up in the post war era where all competition was destroyed.
2. SS will be available when we retire, but the Boomer generation will have the best retirement benefits in history
3. The generations after ours will have it worse.

Gen X dealt with it by shrugging, and doing our own thing.

Mills and Z’s are pissed. The majority have either sky high college debt or no real career prospects. Are competing with waves of illegal immigrants and AI for few and lower paying jobs, and are being called lazy for not living in a box under the over pass.

Looking at the trends, things are going to get spicy soon. The reason so many Z’s and mills REALLY WANT SOCIALISM is they can’t see a way to afford a house or pay off school debt.

Meanwhile all the boomers scream about how they are owed social security, and demand more benefits.

The base issue is everyone was lied to by people in power, and rather than go out and sort them out we are turned on each other.

I am a late boomer (1963), and have been told that SS will be cut by the time I get it. I intend to work until I drop because my line of work is not physically demanding. Also, my wife is younger, and a homemaker, so I want to maximize her benefits that will be based on mine. But I am not asking for any more.

The writer thinks boomers shouldn’t retire. They should also sell their homes and move into smaller spaces. His only valid point is that boomers had too few children, but women going to work was why.

Yeah, it was harder trashing the group ahead of us - the group called ‘the greatest generation’...

The commies enjoy turning every population against every other.

The irresponsibility in overspending, overlending, incurring debt, allowing too much immigration, not enforcing laws so that life for normals is good: Both parties have a share of the blame but generally, the rat communists have been worse at it, especially lately.

Are the young in any way responsible? Yes partly, if they do not join MAGA. If they encourage the spending and Cloward-Piven to continue. If they embrace communism in any form. So insofar as the Zs and Ms vote for idiots like Biden, Obama, OC, etc., etc., they are getting what they asked for.

But remember: The intergenerational hate is yet another op on the part of the communists. It worked well in 1967 onward and it is working now. Don't play into the hands of the left.

Young people: go MAGA and reclaim your future. Things CAN be dramatically better than they are now. Watch Real America's Voice and Newsmax. Reject communism served up daily by MSNBC, ABC, NBC, etc.

Some Gen Xers don't have a parents who are BOOMERS; what then?

And some BOOMERS had Millennial kids.

This whole anti-BOOMER CULT, on FR and outside of it, is idiotic. And no, I'm NOT a BOOMER; just stating facts.

As every intelligent person knows, generational stereotyping is only done by idiots.

(just overturing the pot)

“The reason so many Z’s and mills REALLY WANT SOCIALISM is”

Our problems are due to socialism. Do you really want more unkept promises?

The generation before the boomers is the “Silent
Generation”, the Mick Jagger, Jane Fonda, Joe Biden generation.

the group called ‘the greatest generation’...

That term was invented by a communist who spent his adult life telling lies on network television.

There was no "greatest generation". Generational stereotyping is done by idiots.

Most of the young people on my street paid reasonable prices for their houses and now have really low interest rate mortgages, often under 3%.

Three pools have been put in by homeowners on my block. One of them is an older pool cage contractor.

Young people seeking $10,000 student loan handouts voted Biden into office and will be paying dearly for their stupidity for many years.

The name stuck because that was the generation that fought Japan and Germany and others at the same time - and won.

Today our thugs, goons and fools would invite German ‘students’ to study at MIT and accept cash and diamonds for to ‘influence’ people who might offers favors for our enemies. They really were a great generation...

They can KMA. Boomers like me elected Ronald Reagan and won the Cold War. The peace dividend was squandered in DC. I’m still working at 69, continuing to pay in to Social Security.

I also did 8+ years on active duty, and graduated with no student debt.
