Americans and Swiss citizens have some of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, but their gun cultures differ wildly. One country has seen over 500 mass shootings in 2023 alone, while the other has had less than a handful over the past twenty years. To understand why there’s such a stark difference between these two countries’ gun cultures, we traveled to Switzerland to see how each of these cultures started, and where they began to part ways.

My Swedish Mauser (6MM Carbine) is one mighty fine weapon. It was $79 at Woolworths in 1985.
This bozo has obviously bought into Everytown’s Leftist propagandist statistic where every gang shootout war, where there are three or more wounded parties, police shootings, even if the victims are the wounded parties, is counted as a "mass shooting incident." None of these would have been counted prior to Biden stealing the Presidency. It used to require four or more dead victims not counting the perpetrator for it to count as a mass shooting incident. By that criteria, they are rare. Since that did not play well, they redefined "mass shooting" to not require dead victims, only one wounded victim who could be the perp, and three or more people involved, two of whom could be police, and the third the victim/perp. Voilá, mass shooting incident, even if the perpetrators hit no victims and were only themselves wounded, by police or justifiably by someone they were shooting at.
Density of population in the urban cities is the answer.
Don’t expect the low IQ, impulse control to come up with it anytime soon.
I didn’t watch the video, and maybe they cover it, but I’d be willing to bet they have gun safety and handling courses in Switzlerland as standard educational material.
Thanks for the link.
The guy in the video drove me nuts!
He kept his finger on the trigger!
He was very not knowledgeable about guns.
He didn’t hold them right and not good muzzle control.
At least he tried to be honest about it and not be some crazed idiot like Piers Morgan.
The big difference is the Swiss are a fairly homogeneous culture that identify and deal with the problem members of society quickly.
USA has all sorts of different cultures and thanks to that we cannot under, our laws deal with problems.
Our biggest problem is the Democrat party.
Like many have said if you factor out one segment of the Democrats, our gun crime rate would be less than most every European country.

“To understand why there’s such a stark difference between these two countries’ gun culture”
Idiots, Switzerland does not have inner cities full of low-IQ pavement apes. They may not drug up mental cases, dunno about that one.
No ummmm.....”diversity”
If we brought such courses to American high schools, I wonder whether it would serve in some ways to damp the glamour of the thug culture.

While Switzerland is clear proof that guns are not in themselves “daemons” (as one Denver priest recently claimed), Switzerland does not by itself prove the ease against gun control in America. Indeed, author Clinard argues that strict gun controls are necessary in the U.S.
Clinard’s argument cannot be dismissed out of hand. After all, few readers of this magazine would want America to adopt the lenient criminal sentencing practices of Switzerland. Opponents of lenient sentencing would argue, correctly, that America does not have the stable, integrated community structures of Switzerland. Thus, the American government must take a more coercive, authoritarian role in controlling prisoners, to make up for the lack of community controls.
The same point might be made about guns. Although guns are more available to the Swiss, Swiss gun culture is more authoritarian than America’s. Gun ownership is a mandatory community duty, not a matter of individual free choice. In Switzerland, defence of the nation is not a job for professional soldiers or for people who join the army to learn technical skills for civilian jobs. Defence of the nation is the responsibility of every male citizen.
Cultural conditions, not gun laws, are the most important factors in a nation’s crime rate. Young adults in Washington, D.C., are subject to strict gun control, but no social control, and they commit a staggering amount of armed crime. Young adults in Zurich are subject to minimal gun control, but strict social control, and they commit almost no crime.
America-with its traditions of individual liberty-cannot import Switzerland’s culture of social control. Teenagers, women, and almost everyone else have more freedom in America than in Switzerland.
I think it might.
I know that early familiarization with firearms reduces irrational fears of them and at the same time increases a rational respect for their destructive power.
At present far too many people only have a Hollywood movie/video game view about gun handling and firearm’s capabilities and limits. It’s a million miles from reality.
“500 mass shootings” is a false fact. Break the 500 down to every individual mass shooter and the answer is quite clear. Nobody wants to go there even with irrefutable facts.
The Swiss will soon change all that with the immigrants poorinto their country.
6.5 x 55. A great cartridge, and a fine rifle.
“It’s not our guns—it’s your SONS”
They are all minorities in Switzerland!
The German-Swiss.
The Franco-Swiss.
The Italo-Swiss.
The Rhaeto-Romanish-Swiss.
No one has the absolute majority!
