Old Words - New Meanings
Rightbias.com ^ | 12-14-23 | Nancy Morgan

Propelled by the exciting notion that words that mean nothing can often mean anything, favorite words of the left took on new meanings in 2023. Meanings that had less to do with the word itself, than with associating a particular word with a vast array of feelings, designed to mangle the original meaning and grant it a new, improved definition....

From another post where the word juveniles was used to avoid the truth. But what does the internet say?

One of my favorite new words this year, is the word stimulus. It evokes titillating, exciting and positive feelings. To stimulate is good. To be stimulated is great, right? Few people want to acknowledge that the word stimulus, as it is being used these days, means government spending. I take my hat off to the genius who finally figured out a way to make pork barrel spending exciting and necessary. (I bet its the same guy that decided to call taxes ‘investments’)

I half expected to see more porn with the word. I think they had to search long and hard before they found that stimulate might still work and hadn’t been corrupted.

Exhibit 1: "gay"

Tithing has been neatly replaced by carbon credits.

This are the images put in skulls of mush head.

When you think of carbon credit, what is the picture in your mind?

As we go to press, other words are in the process of being redefined and/or banned. One of the most vexing to replace is the word bailout. Any progressive who can suggest a new, improved word to replace bailout, will win a prize. (The winner will be declared carbon neutral for a full year.) But remember, the new word must evoke feelings of tolerance, inclusiveness and piety. Oh, and it should be green, too. We await your suggestions.

bail out will be hard to change, replacement will be?

https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/another-word-for/bail_out.html

lots of good options. anyone have a favorite?

I thought they were already using the word “investment” for bailout.

I marched for “Equality” in the 1960s. I reject out-of-hand the replacement of this honorable word with the grasping concept of “Equity”.

Opportunity should be equal, outcomes or equity should depend on personal effort.

Equity has replaced Equality in all leftard writings.

The article disappoints me. Here are her new words:

inclusiveness, tolerance, meanspirited, stimulus, green, judgemental

These are not new words and have not been given new definitions. They are merely being used to describe some trendy ideas.

A couple of words that are new to me are “intersectional” and “boulder” as a verb, which means to climb a wall of boulders, as in “they are bouldering”.

Other new words or word pairs that come to mind are “unhoused”, “food insecurity”, and “food desert.”

‘Equity’ is the exact opposite of ‘equality’

As I said, those words can mean whatever the left wants them to mean.

“handgun,” does not appear to be
In 20th Century dictionaries encyclopedias, movies, TV programs nor books. NY State has a Pistol Permit licensing setup but not a “handgun” Permit.
“Handgun” is a made up word for pistol? A hand gun is any firearm you can hold in your hand and fire. I can fire a hand cannon, a hand mortar, a rocket launcher, an AR-15, a grenade launcher with one hand. “Handgun” does not appear in Webster’s 1887 Dictionary, but “pistol” does.
I never heard that word handgun ever when I was growing up. It’s a word invented by the commies. Once you start using commie definitions you have surrendered all your freedoms. I am dumb but I ain’t stupid. I asked
An attorney to find out when this term first appeared in legal papers.

The German govt. under Olaf Scholz likewise has its Sondervermögen (literally: "special assets") - which are, in fact, nothing more than debt.

Did you ever hear the word "revolver" when you were growing up? What word would you suggest be used when referring to both "pistols" and "revolvers?"

All the king’s horses and men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together after his great fall. Hopefully, the same will be the end of the not-so-woke and their upside down definitions.

Webster`s Dictionary, 1887: “Pistol”
“a short firearm to be aimed and fired from one hand.
Pistols are now usually revolvers, or automatic, or semiautomatic, magazine pistols.”
Revolver herein is defined in 1887 Webster`s Dictionary as
“a firearm (commonly a pistol) with a cylinder of several chambers so arranged as to revolve on an axis, and be discharged in succession by the same lock.”

1790 Sheridan`s dictionary: “Musket, a soldier`s handgun.”

the word “rifle” does not appear in Sheridan`s 1790 dictionary. But the word “caliver “ does .
“Caliver, a barquebuse, an old musket”

ibid.
“Handgun, a gun wielded by the hand”

to wield; to use with full command, as a thing not too heavy”. -Sheridan

Sheridan 1790: “firearms, arms which owe their efficacy to fire... the instrument from which shot is discharged by fire.”
Webster 1887: “musket, a hand firearm formerly carried by soldiers.”

It`s all semantics to me.
It would appear to this ignorant perspon, me, that
A. a Musket is a handgun.
B. A revolver is a type of pistol.
C. Handgun is any kind of gun that vcan be wielded by the hand.
