If you're interested in turning your next holiday party into a social experiment, consider bringing some of these Christmas classics to the table, because nothing says conversation piece like a large snowman made of cottage cheese. History has produced some seriously weird Christmas food trends and quite a few of them have managed to stick around. Holiday foods from centuries ago may come across as unappetizing because of how much tastes have changed. On the other hand, Christmas trends of 20th-century America took weirdness to a whole other level.

I got a fruitcake there one time. It had pecan shells in it.
For what it costs I was upset. I’ll never buy another one from there.
Well, then bring some right here!
Once I shellacked/varnished a fruit cake I received as a gift and used as a doorstop for 2 years before it began to crack.
That Christmas Candle Salad needs some walnuts added to it; it might make a return in blue voting areas.
The only thing sadder than a melting snowman is a collapsing cottage cheese snowman!
Have you tried Wal-Mart’s bakery fruit cake? It is the BEST!
Jane you’re supposed to sluice it with rum. I just eat it with vanilla ice cream.
We love mincemeat! I make meatless mincemeat from scratch, for pies. (Butter replaces the suet that’s in real mincemeat). I often offer to bring it to holiday dinners at my brother’s, but he won’t even try it.
You can have my share.
Sounds like something from SpongeBob SquarePants or Ren and Stempy.
Would that be the Texas Manor Fruitcake made with pure butter batter? I had to sell those things all through high school as a fundraiser. The were pricey but people loved them.
If they would simply remove those petrified, gelled fruits, it might not be so bad :-)
Texas Manor Fruitcake....
People MUST love them ... they’re all Out of Stock....

That aunt was a fabulous baker. That crust was always golden and flakey and she had it dusted with a sparkling sugar.
Unfortunately, I am not a skilled baker. I can make decent cakes but others are a lot better at it than I am. :)
Collin’s street fruit cake
We have homemade fruitcakes of all types. They are delicious. I love pannetone, too.
Collins Street fruitcake from Corsicana... so delicious. The ones with Texas pecans are so good.
My grandma grew up in London and made perfect pie crusts and delicious mincemeat. I sure do miss her.
Mom use to make fruitcake. I remember her buying those candied citrus thingies for them. (I like fruitcake pretty well.)
