The holidays are a time of joy and merriment. They’re also a time to be in our feels, and sometimes that’s really, really depressing. We’re not going to get all sappy on you, but even car folks shed a tear from time to time. Usually it’s from banging our fingers against the inner wall of a steel fender, sometimes it’s from selling off that project you swore you’d never sell, and every so often it’s because of a commercial. You know, a real tear-jerker.
Chevrolet has chopped the proverbial onions right in front of us a number of times now, and today they’ve aired their 2023 A Holiday to Remember longform TV spot.

It is not nostalgia if there isn’t a “CLUNK” in the middle of a song played on a 8-track.
Yes, with the song fading out and back in again. On 8-Tracks, they usually made sure the hits were not split up, though. Rearranging tracks as necessary.

My first car was a '69 Chevy, with a 8-track tape player.
The only tape I had to play in it, was John Denver's Greatest Hits. Weird.

That’s the first good Christmas ad I’ve seen in decades. I own a 57 Chevy Bel Air, a 67 Camaro, and a 3/4 ton 1949 Chevy pickup. Lots of memories.

That’s really really good on so many levels.
Amazon had a good ad as well with old ladies going sledding.

Geez. I'm not easily given to tear up, but that did it.
I don't even like John Denver's stuff, but it didn't bother me here.
Good commercial.

Here’s a fully restored one ... too spendy, for me :-)
I am in the same city as the vendor, so I could take a bus to buy, and drive it home.
It is NOT a restored Suburban, though. It is a "restomod", which means some key components are new. Bluetooth/XM replaces the 8-Track. New Vortec V-8 (good: better mileage and power, bad: more computers). Likely takes a current refrigerant in a new style AC unit (Mostly good as R-12 is unavailable). Digital gauges from a Dodge Dakota (BAD!). However, NO air bags, shoulder belts, or bucket seats. I'll take it!

Could not tell if that was a Kraco 8-track player purchased at K-Mart.

“”Suburban with a four barrel””
The above phrase reminds me of the insanity of Kalifornia Air Resources Board (CARB) and their insane regulations. For the smog check when you register your car, they not only test what exits the tail pipe, they look under the hood also. If you have altered the original equipment, you do not ‘pass’ the smog test, and cannot register the vehicle. An acquaintance replaced the original 2 barrel carburetor with a 4 barrel carburetor. The tailpipe exhaust test was very, very clean, but no smog certification. The owner had to put the original 2 barrel carburetor back. Once they finally provided the smog certificate and registration, he put the 4 barrel back on the truck.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but the company that built that Suburban doesn’t exist anymore. Not since Barack Obama took a sledgehammer to GM.
