(Vanity Question) Salvation Army-Yay or Nay?

Got a question for my fellow FReepers.

I saw a social media post from an uber-liberal I know. In it, she made mention that the Salvation Army kettle drive was under way. She reminded her friends that they should NOT give anything to the SA because they were ant-LGBTQ+.

Now, I seem to recall that (I think it was two or maybe three years ago) there was huge hue and cry from FR that we should not give to the SA bell ringers because the SA was PRO-LGBTQ+, according to some handout to the bell-ringing volunteers.

As for me, there are many other good charities to give my money to, but I think it's rather strange that both sides are saying the SA is bad for exactly the opposite reasons.

Gotta admit...it's kinda confusing. Which is it?

I have a different reason for never giving to the Salvation Army ever again. A few years ago their International Social Justice Commission came out with their “Let’s Talk About Racism” pamphlet that basically told whites they should feel guilty for being white. The Salvation Army will never again ever receive anything from me. They went woke, now they can go broke.

Read their ‘Let’s Talk about Racism’ guide that they put out several years ago then hastily withdrew.

If you are white, they want your money but hate you and believe you owe them an apology for your being a big ol’ whitey racist in a KKK hood.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/cache.salvationarmy.org/456ab604-ccb8-430e-af65-f75e04f223f5_Racism+Study+Guide.pdf

“In a document obtained by Central Nova News titled “Let’s Talk About Racism,” they state that Christianity is inherently racist, and that white people need to “lament, repent and apologize for biases or racist ideologies held and actions committed.”

“Many have come to believe that we live in a post-racial society, but racism is very real for our brothers and sisters who are refused jobs and housing, denied basic rights and brutalized and oppressed simply because of the color of their skin,” one lesson explains. “There is an urgent need for Christians to evaluate racist attitudes and practices in light of our faith, and to live faithfully in today’s world.”

“They state that people need to stop denying that racism and systemic racism don’t exist, which is “still at work to keep white Americans in power.”

Is “NFW” similar to “Nay”?

They went full racist a few years ago. That’s the year I stopped bell ringing (and donating).

I haven’t given a penny since those blithering, drooling slobs told us a couple years ago that after we give them money, we need to go apologize to black people. I will admit, over the last couple years, they were never very many out there. This year I’m seeing more of them but it’s still not like it used to be. People just pass them by. Having said all that, I still like Salvation Army Rock though. (Rainy Day Women 12 & 35)

I understand your point.

However I can verify two examples that are indeed accurate.

A few years ago where I live a story was carried in the local media which just happened to let slip that the former policy of the Salvation Army spending the majority of its donations in the area that donated them was no longer in effect. I live in Central kentucky and there are plenty of people around here in need of help. And it pissed me off royally that when we gave them money with the understanding it was going to help people in our area that they were no longer doing that.

As far as the Salvation Army manual which has been brought up I kept a copy of it on the computer for some time I may have lost it when I upgraded my computer last year. However it did clearly state that we’re all a bunch of racists because we’re white and we need to repent this imaginary racism of whiteness. So as far as I’m concerned they can kiss my ass. There are plenty of local operations that the money we give goes directly to the people who need it here.

Since all this hate Whitey racism crap has become mainstream my attitude has hardened. I don’t forgive and I don’t forget.

I always gave to the SA too.
My dad was a big SA supporter primarily because of the way they treated the G.I.s in Europe during WWII.
That was good enough for me until 2017 when Sally pulled that chit on DJT and backed out of the Mar-a-Lago fundraiser over that Charlottesville kerfuffle.
F’em!

Both of you are wrong.

The SA is not anti-Alphabet and people were mad at them for a CRT (Critical Race Theory) pamphlet that they were handing out.

Nay - in favor of local ministries that help those in need.

My opinion (and I know it’s worth spit) is that nearly every “American charity” does more to bolster and encourage illegal immigration, than they help ACTUAL Americans. I’ve seen with my own eyes who gets the free meals, the warm coats, the pantry items, the baby diapers, the school supplies, the fill-in-blank. I’m done.

I had two different things that made me a huge supporter of the Salvation Army.

Many years ago, I had a patient who was a WWI veteran (he was quite elderly) and he talked about how much he hated the Red Cross (he nearly spat on the ground as he spoke!) because when he got wounded and had to spend extensive time in the hospitals over in France, the Red Cross made them pay for everything, cigarettes and such when they came through the wards. He said the Salvation Army was far more generous, didn’t make the wounded soldiers pay, and gave freely. (To be fair, I was also down on the Red Cross at the time for other reasons I cannot recall, so I was inclined to accept what the fellow told me)

My brother in law had a terrible house fire on Christmas Eve many years ago, and he lost everything. The Salvation Army gave him money, clothes, shelter, and food. When he talked about them, he glowed.

I was pretty angry when all that crap came out from the SA leadership. I still am. They should have stayed in their damn lane.

I made sure I wasn’t falling for some Internet outrage, either. I went to their national website and navigated around and found what people were talking about before they took it down.

S A is one of the many organizations helping transport migrants.
Put money somewhere else.
