Got a question for my fellow FReepers.
I saw a social media post from an uber-liberal I know. In it, she made mention that the Salvation Army kettle drive was under way. She reminded her friends that they should NOT give anything to the SA because they were ant-LGBTQ+.
Now, I seem to recall that (I think it was two or maybe three years ago) there was huge hue and cry from FR that we should not give to the SA bell ringers because the SA was PRO-LGBTQ+, according to some handout to the bell-ringing volunteers.
As for me, there are many other good charities to give my money to, but I think it's rather strange that both sides are saying the SA is bad for exactly the opposite reasons.
Gotta admit...it's kinda confusing. Which is it?
No way!
As dead to me as the United Way.
I recall the hugh and cry on FR as well.
Sounds familiar to me, too. Maybe this from two years ago...

Yes...that’s it! It was about “racism”, not LGBTQ+ crapola.
Oh well.
Even if they had pro-LGBxxxxx policies or action, that wouldn’t matter to LGBTxxxx people. They hate Christian organizations no matter what.
From what I can recall, conservatives drifted away from the Salvation Army because of the Army’s woke racial policies. Instead of focusing on their primary mission, the Army started focusing on racial equity, white privilege, and stuff like that.
I don’t think there was a LGBTQ+ component.
So, yeah. It looks like the Salvation Army managed to upset both conservatives and the LGBTQ+ crowd.
It’s a real shame. At one time, the Salvation Army was an incredible organization. I hope they can find their way back.
Does that answer your question?
Though I'd love to know why the DM published the story...
I would suggest that one research the LOCAL SA.
But it is easier to just believe the media and rumor mill.
A friend’s mother works there. They go through the donated items and keep the best for themselves.
The salvation army hates white people.
Nay- they kicked women out who objected to men being in the women’s bathrooms!
> I would suggest that one research the LOCAL SA. <
That’s a fair point. The local folks on the ground often do great work. But the national SA leadership has completely lost its way.
I just checked their website, hoping for the best. Nope. They are still obsessed with race and alleged racism.
As I noted earlier, it’s a real shame. Even when I was a poor college kid, I’d send a little money to them every month. No more. I have found better places to tithe.
The Salvation Army does help people in some ways. If you want to help someone, help them. Don’t give your dollars to someone that claims to help others. There are too many crooks out there. Too many agendas.
IMHO, support your LOCAL charities before any National/Name Brand charity.
If you are a member of a Church, start there. If not:
Got a Food Pantry in your town? Support them.
Got an Animal Shelter? Support them.
Got a quality Senior Center in town? Support them.
Happy with your local Police or Fire Department? Support Them.
(We donate to our local Fire Department and our no-kill animal shelter.)
And you don’t need to donate money - it can also be your time or talents. :)
So, a Hard No from me.
Yep, they are woke.
Once leftists take over a non-profit there is no going back.
It is a one way ticket.
