The announcement came the same day that X sued Media Matters over an article claiming the company had run ads for major firms next to antisemitic posts.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Monday announced that he had opened an investigation into media watchdog group Media Matters for America for potential fraud.
"The Office of the Attorney General ('OAG') is opening an investigation into Media Matters for potential fraudulent activity," read a press release from the Republican's office. "Under the Texas Business Organizations Code and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, the OAG will vigorously enforce against nonprofits who commit fraudulent acts in or affecting the state of Texas."
"Attorney General Paxton was extremely troubled by the allegations that Media Matters, a radical anti-free speech organization, fraudulently manipulated data on X.com (formerly known as Twitter)," the statement continued.
"We are examining the issue closely to ensure that the public has not been deceived by the schemes of radical left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to limit freedom by reducing participation in the public square," he said.

Paxton is punching back after the witch hunt impeachment brought against him by RINOs and leftists in the Texas Senate.
We’ve seen many businesses and institutions punish Conservatives and take away their ability to speak. It has been an unholy alliance of Big Government and Big Business teaming up to crush the little people of America through Cancel Culture.
Now we might be seeing decent businessmen (ex. Elon Musk) and decent politicians (ex. AG Paxton) teaming up to strike back at the oppressors.
Still need decent judges though.
Hopefully other AG will latch on to this and bleed the left dry.

I’m sure you already know this and you writing “Senate” was merely a typo, but it’s the @#$%^&* rinos in the Texas HOUSE that impeached General Paxton. The Senate not only acquitted him — handily — but has and will open a can of whoopass on the House for their fact-free but innuendo-rich impeachment.
Certain Tx House members are going to bear the fury of the people next election cycle (including my rino critter Kitzman).
The leader of the impeachment forces in the House, Andrew Murr, grandson of Coke Stevenson, is bowing out of the March 2024 primary.
>> Andrew Murr... is bowing out of the March 2024 primary.
Pray Dade Phelan follows suit. My understanding is that Phelan (D, posing as R) is not all that popular in his own district now.
Lawfare works two ways.
L
Isnt that the textbook definition of Fascism?
Irony.
Lefties hate it when you use their own lawfare tactics against them.

What??? IIRC, the charges were filed by the Texas HOUSE.
Go get ‘em Ken!
Sorry, I meant to say after the acquittal in the trial in the Senate.
If you track it, the MM assault against Musk & the twit is merely one part of what can only be described as organized.
Though I’ve yet to see a single analysis of that ‘allegation’.
Experience being a guideline, I won’t hold my breath over this investigation.
Forgiven.
Now, if someone could reign in the RNC National Committeewoman. She seems to have a parade of RINOs on her speakers list.
Why yes it is. Yet demonrats scream fascist at their enemies while using fascist tactics to punish conservatives.
Drain the Soros crime family
