Gmail has gotten to the point that it regularly locks me out of my accounts for a week or more.
Im tired of them using phony security concerns to track my location, accounts, devices, etc.
Looking for free accounts for personal use.
Interested in hearing about your experience using other emails, both the pros and cons.
What are your suggestions?
Never had an issue with Hotmail. Yahoo used to be good, but the advertising they stick you with now is annoying. I hate Gmail. My wife has it and has all kinds of trouble with it.
Whatever is causing you to get locked out, you need to deal with that, because you’re going to probably end up dealing with it with whatever email host you choose. Are you forgetting your password?
Proton mail. Nothing else.
I just use their phone app rather than Outlook
With “free” you get what you pay for.
I have used Proton mail for years. Never had a problem and I like their secure system. The free email is ok but if you use it for business and a lot of email the annual cost is not that much and has a lot of benefits. Servers are in Switzerland.
Don’t use the unreliable servers the government uses. They have very inconvenient failure rates and might get wiped, like with a cloth.
I started back in prehistoric days with a free HOTMAIL account. That automatically switched to outlook at some point, but my addresses (Personal and business) remained the same. If it works, don’t fix it.
I’ve used Yahoo like forever, also, and haven’t had any issues either.
Yahoo
I keep a Gmail account for all the daily junk but have a paid Proton Mail account for my personal life and select private business needs. That way it doesn’t get cluttered up with the Gmail address nonsense.
Plus the VPN is very good. I like the extra layer of protection. On top of that I don’t use Windows or Apple operating systems except for specific needs.
One through a VPN, which all of us should have at this point. I use TorGuard at $50 annually, with email thrown in at no cost.
All encrypted. No logs. Permanent deletion when emails are deleted.
Why would GMail lock you out?
I’ve been using Hushmail for five years. No complaints.

Apple email. I’ve been using it for years, started back when it was still @me.com. never paid a dime for it. Now it’s @icloud.com which still allows me to use my old @me address. Still free, never had any problems with it. since it’s Apple it’s pretty secure, at least I’ve never had any security issues with email.
Proton Mail. You can get it with a free VPN and with encryption.
I have Private Internet Access VPN on my WiFi router so all my home devices are behind it. I use the PIA app on my phone so my phone is protected when I use public WiFi.
No, I know my passwords for all of my accounts.
There are a number of reasons and I cant claim to know all of them or even necessarily which ones trigger it at a specific event.
Some of the things that bother them are logging out of google on some devices that they are trying to track you on, trying to log in on other devices that they want to track you on, deleting cookies, trying to log on to the same device with more than one ID(even at different times), insisting on trying to associate all of my ids with a phone number, and some unknown array of other things.
You need to make a complicated password but it does not lock you out because you are "signing in from another location".
Not fancy, just works.
