He is basically grafted in, but ... ! The line doesn’t run across the country. It is a real historical demarcation. The term applies to someone from a vague distance north of where a southerner lives and is used to create understanding within that southerner as to why someone behaves the why they do.
I consider those whose heritage is from where it regularly snows as a “yankee.” That means parts of Tennessee and North Carolina.
Southern California is granola country, the land of fruit and nuts. And what isn’t nuts, is flakes.
Washington, Oregon, and California comprise the left coast. That explains a lot.
God bless Southerners. This pic was taken at the Iron Bowl last night, and I woke up today with some strong feelings about what I’ve experienced in the South.
First, I’m a NY kid, born and raised, but I’ve spent most of my adult life far south of NY. Between Georgia, Maryland, Florida and Alabama, we’ve been around. And I’ve really grown attached to Southerners, and here’s why (note: I obviously haven’t met every person from the South, this is MY EXPERIENCE):
-God matters. Their faith is central to their lives, and they’re proud of it. Nothing comes before God. Nothing. -Manners and structure matter. They’re not vestigial structures from a bygone era. They’re links to the past, and bridges to the future that instill order and discipline in a chaotic world.
-They’re proud, but not arrogant. I once offered to buy a friend of a friend a pair of new boots because his were beat up, and he flatly refused to take the offer. I saw it in his eyes and I instantly regretted it. I knew I had misjudged the situation, and although my intentions were pure, I was angry at myself for not reading the room better.
-They absolutely love college football. But the love is pure, not contaminated. I sat with 80,000 plus people in Auburn watching a game that had zero chance of the home team producing a championship. I watched them scream, I watched them hug their wives and kids with a joy I’ve never seen before as each insane play of an amazing game unfolded. I also watched them cry at an ending they didn’t expect. And, despite the ending, I watched them treat the Roll Tide fans with absolute respect on the way out. No fights. No evil. Just a pure, innocent, love of the game.
I often joke on my podcast and radio show how I’d like you all (y’all?) to adopt me, but I’m happy just being an observer. To the people I have met down South, thank you for so deeply enriching my life. And to those I haven’t, God bless y’all.
His daughter attends AU and, along with me, experienced that very sad, a very very sad, sad, sad travesty of a football game. Bongino did not mention that we all sang "God Bless America" and the "Star Spangled Banner" which ended with a flyover of 3 F-35s, crewed by all AU grads.
He also didn't mention that the game bowl began a travel to Auburn from that other location carried by veterans from both schools called "The Iron Ruck". This ruck march took 3 days and is used to highlight the episodes of veteran suicides which plague our military.
game bowl = game ball
nope, it was just a pretty picture I found. I notice several of the pretty scenes I see on line have been enhanced, I suppose some totally fake. it is the thought that counts, I think, I hope.
Looks like an awesome train ride.
Beautiful to look at, but I’d be with Spunky, on the floor, white-knuckling it, waiting for it to end. Looks too scary to me!
...
I wonder where that clip is from. I hope it is true. Lockstep was successful, and they are about to kick another big grab off in a couple weeks that is suppose to be completed 2030, in which we will no longer have ownership of anything.
Lol he did sound like he really loved the southerners much more than the Yankees!
Good of you to grant him status lol. How goes the packing?
I’ll try and find out, norsky.
Oh, your train was real, I think. There’s a number of them that are quite beautiful. I googled “beautiful train rides” and saw them.
One of my favorite Christmases was when I was 4, about 40 of us Norwegian kids held hands and danced around the Christmas tree singing Christmas songs, it was magical to me.
Well, I’m glad I looked for it!
Our Country Our Choice (OCOC Report) is a site run by Col. Macgregor himself! It looks very good....I didn’t take the time to find the exact clip, but will do that shortly. Here’s the link:

Packing is basically done. Weighing and cataloguing next. 3:10 hours to go. I’ve got this.
Lol oh norsky. You never fail us.
Atta girl, Jem! Prayers up for safe travels for you!
You are so right. I’m very aware that this may well be the last Thanksgiving I have with my Dad. Also, recognize that any time we say good-bye to anybody, it may be for the last time. Man knows not his time.
That’s it! It is beautiful! Thanks for posting.
